MACHINA | The Music Of The Future
Listening to MACHINA after almost one year once again...I always keep wondering if this album was meant to introduce the sound of rock music in the future, let's say in the year 2030...well these days, 10 years after, music buiz is closer to MACHINA sound than when it came out in 2000...this album is the most outstanding and remarkable Smashing Pumpkins album for it is such an anachronism (though MCIS is my favorite).
This is pure electro art rock. It wasn't well recieved by the critics and many fans, I needed almost 2 years myself to get in...but when you're inside the machine there's clearly no way out. It's an ocean of melodies and colors. This album is unique, I don't know any other songs or bands who sound like this, even today (please, get away with Silversun Pickups now, this is just itchy-pop to MACHINA and a horrible SP copy).
I wonder what critics would have said about this album if it was released today...Impressive, even with the 634th turn :-), very, very impressive! Seems like Billy WAS absolutley knowing what he was doing, but all the world ignored his effort as it did with the masterpiece Adore...there are still so many unknown accesspoints to original SP, even today, that I keep wondering if we'll ever get to the heart of the original Smashing Pumpkins' mystery. They really were the most outstanding, many-sided and brilliant rock band of it's decade! Long live the original Smsahing Pumpkins!!!

i like the Silversun pickups and I don't see too many similarities to the Pumpkins besides a love for Mixolydian and Fuzz.
Other than that I agree. However I'd be willing to say certain tracks on Machina II beat out some of the Machina tracks for me personally.1 Like -
I love Silversun Pickup, I think they remind me of The Bee Gees and Smashing Pumpkin.

I think Adoe, Machina / The Machines Of God, and Machina II / The Friends And Enemies Of Modern Music are the best Smashing Pumpkins albums and some of the best albums ever. I think the reason that those albums weren't well received is because they were too good, too mature, and too meaningful. To bad it Smashing Pumpkins couldn't be like Nirvana and make songs with the same lyric through the whole song "Hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, hello hello hello, burp, yay!" Yeah hi, I heard the 40th time!"
Or Radiohead, Tom York who needs to get the gum out of his mouth while in studio, and the wrest of the band who needs to be informed there is no UN embargo on guitars and drum2 Like -

It's good to see there is someone else who agrees with me. Radiohead, need to make an album with some guts.1 Like -
I think you're right, Machina was about twenty years ahead of it's time. Did you know Ben Burly said that he was trying to make a song in the same vein as a Machina era Smashing Pumpkins song.
