Mayonaise (PoeticMonkey)
The piano riffs actually came to me about 5 or 6 years ago when I first started to teach myself piano on a cheap Yamaha non-midi keyboard. The ideas stuck with me, and I never was able to get them laid down until I had the motivation from the contest.

Any chance that old cheap Yamaha did the feedback squeal during a rest...?
What I like most about this song, and I definitely love it, is that although you obviously have very capable audio production skills you didn't "reach too far" with the production of the track... Your quality is great, but even more importantly you preserved that authentic bedroom feel that I love so much about a well-executed fan-cover... So often (myself included) amateur producers try too hard with their productions and their tracks end up losing the ability to convey the emotionality as exemplified in songs such as Meladori Magpie, which demonstrate how powerful simple, humble arrangements can be... well done...0 Like -
I don't know what AppleHead is talking about... I think you should make the track mono...
Maybe it's your monitors AppleHead.. What brand/model of monitors are you listening through...?0 Like -
AppleHead, is this the target sound you're talking about.... :razz

Thinking back, at the time of coming up with the piano parts years ago, I was also trying to learn the title track of "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness". If you notice in this cover, the main riff has the notes stepping up from the root note on each chord of the progression. The intro piano on Mellon Collie was the same way.
Compare them. You'll see what I mean. I think the techniques I was just learning bled over to Mayonaise when I tried to learn that one.
Funny how that happened. (oh... those were good times with that early 90's Yamaha keyboard)0 Like -
yeah, Berbaker... this song is absolutely playalistacal... I'll be listening to this cover for years to come... even if I have to deviously capture the stream... hopefully it won't come to that... PUBLISH THIS...!

I puzzle at comments like this... I can never tell if they are compliments or the opposite... :confused0 Like -
There are certain songs which have been covered and submitted during this competition that have assuredly made me realize I would have given up from the gate, had the competition been to cover that particular song... among these, this cover is the greatest... I remember, as if yesterday, listening to this song rebelliously and contrary to airline rules, on my cassette Walkman... simply because I knew to hear this while ascending from the ground into the clouds was to outshine any repercussions a flight attendant might administer... a singular moment in time I will never forget... and though my reflection is likely juvenile and falls discounted upon onlookers, that moment built for me a sensual platform from which this song would forever stand... this cover is of the few that returns me to that original place... that individual place in the world important to only to me...
