People should really forget the word "emo"....
It's so pointless.
I think emo is supposed to mean emotional hardcore, so I suppose you cant really say hes so emotional hardcore... uhm.. cause emotional hardcore is evidently a musicgenre.

Anyway I dont like the word. Why cant everybody just say emotional so I can understand..

and kill the emo subgenre!

when I think pumpkins, I think alt/prog rock, not emo

but I still dont like to classify them, because they aren't like anything else i've heard

Yeah, why does every band have to have a label or a classification? If one listens to SD they might say this is definitely an alternative rock album and if they listen to Adore they might call it techno or elctronica.
I agree that SP is in their own category.
I think discussing weather or not the new album will suck or not is stupid because we have absolutely no idea what direction Billy decided to go this time...
So we will all have to wait and hear it!

PreGish- GothPop / heavy Metal
Gish - Phycodelic / Glamish
SD - AltRock with some emo/angust lyrics
MCIS - AltRock / Glamish with almost all angust based lyrics (but certainly not all)
Adore - ProgRock with a more electronic feel and less angust based lyrics(more mature)
Machina1 - ProgRock with some Gothic Romanticisms
Machina2 - ProgRock with some slight dips into eceltronic sounds and Gothic Romanticisms

Why can't we all just agree that SP's work is completely and utterly superior to anything any new popular band has done (with a few exceptions)?

That would be very fitting. Just anywhere in Chicago would be excellent. I'd LOVE to see a surprise appearance at Lollapalooza, but who knows.

what kind of venues do you think they would play...we just built a new arena called the qwest center, and it's HUGE....eric clapton, van halen, paul mccartney and aerosmith have all played there..do you think they'd play something that big? we've go other smaller venues, but i hope they play somewhere close!!

I think that it'd be really cool if they start will small venues and gradually work up to arenas again.

i'll trust in billy. though i am concerned about the outcome. you know, think of the kids that used to really like errmmmm say, greenday or korn. not any thing against those bands in particular, but most have grown out of those bands, and some are embarrassed to admit that they actually liked them.
my point is that the pumpkins have never done that to me. i still love them as much today as i did when i was 12. thats one reason that i'm proud to still be a huge fan. the pumpkins were together roughly the same amount of time as the beatles. i compare the two often, and loosely based on the amount of material and the ground broken/covered. the beatles never regrouped, and they are immortalized as one of the best bands of all time. what if they had been pushed back together, and the result was horrible? the pumpkins are encased as this great force in music made classic by time and breaking up. there aren't any B- attempts. its all good/great. and i'd rather it stay that way then one day my loyalty come back and bite me. because they were different! and i reiterate how good they are even to the fans(like preaching to the choir).
they've always been a band that takes risks. the rollercoaster ride, the waiting, and the whiplash once its there..... i can't get enough of it. this subject line is what got me babbling on and on.... and on....and on. nevertheless, yes i'm prepared for the worst, yet i'm expecting the BEST FUCKING MUSIC I'VE EVER HEARD!!!!

i agree with you, but there is a big difference

any of us will say the pumpkins are legends and one of the best bands ever

but a lot of people would totally disagree and say they suck, and some people will have never even heard of them

if you ask people if the beatles played a big part in the evolution of music, most of them will agree to that, even if they're not really a fan
