You mean "The Killer In Me Is The Killer In You" and "The World Is a Vampire"?

My favorite version of Disarm is the full band electric version from Earphoria, and my favorite version of Bullet With Butterfly Wings is the acoustic version from the Mellon Collie Demos.

Haha!

As for thread. It's NME, they still treat Oasis like they're the biggest band around. Biased british fucks.

I just recently bought a SP bootleg off of eBay called "The Second to Last Gig Ever!" and I must say, it is a real gem. It is from 29 Nov 00 at the United Center in Chicago, which is the show previous to the two Metro shows on 1,2 Dec of the same year. The energy of this show is amazing, and it truly embraces how great the Pumpkins used to be. It takes you back and saddens you, for sure.

If you haven't heard this yet, check it out. Jimmy is a beast!

is there any way to download an entire show from archive.org without having to click every individual link?

Personally i think that a lot of people do like the pumpkins, but that there's also the fact that not many people 'love' them as i'm assuming every member of this website does. Most people wouldn't turn their noses up at Tonight Tonight, Disarm, BWBW etc but wouldn't particularly want to listen to TTEOR, Window Paine, Here Is No Why and various others of what i consider to be the best SP songs. I hate to sound snobbish in the musical sense, but the majority of casual SP fans wouldn't want to delve into their repertoire to degree that people like us have, such as owning their entire discography as well as multiple live recordings as we do, probably not because they wouldn't like it once they heard it but because i for one wouldn't say these songs are 'easy listening', but do evoke deep emotions once you've listened to them a few times and they become a part of your life and actually mean something to you emotionally. I'm hoping that Oceania will maybe bring the Pumpkins a bit more exposure and prompt the casual fans and/or new fans to delve deaper into their back catalogue and embrave the majesty of SP, that is the dream.

Wisely spoken my friend, my brother only listens to Smashing Pumpkins : Rotten Apples. I was in the car with him and I put Smashing Pumpkins : Adore, in and turned on For Martha, and he just said "How can you listen to this boring songs. After which he put in Smashing Pumpkins : Rotten Apples and turned it to Bullet With Butterfly Wings.

And as for TBK how can you hate Song For A Son, Freak USA, and TomTom?

Because they just aren't that good. They're lazy, predictable, boring, and do nothing to make me want to hear them again. There's nothing innovative, unique, or all that creative about what's going on with those songs. They're sub-par SP in my book.

Just curious, how did you become the definitive source as to what makes a good song and/or album? Not saying this to sound like an asshole, you just seem to want to tell everybody what is and is not good.

Re: I Think We Are The Only People Who Like The Smashing Pumpkins. 1 year 4 months ago #107650

This is always a tough issue for people because why does one like one band over another? Why is it more personal to a person more than another? For instance I think tool is the best band on the planet right now and has been for a while, but the pumpkins mean more to me. I'm not on a tool site posting thoughts and ideas and whatever else flows through the emptiness of digital messages around the world.

Like it's obvious that say Madonna or Backstreet Boys or Elvis Presley were not out to make something great -- they were marketing people who happened to have music as a medium. Yes they may have loved music, but they were not concerned with innovating or making something unique.

But why not alice in chains over smashing pumpkins? Why not buckethead as a guitar player over billy corgan? Why not jeff buckley over kurt cobain?

Ultimately for me I know why I love the pumpkins so much, but I don't pretend I know what they do to make that happen. I know what I do to make that happen.

So I guess my point is how does that make any of us right?

It has a lot to do with coincidence. Certain songs will connect at certain points in your life where you can relate, where you are emotionally vulnerable at the right moment. Where you feel that the song is a biography of you, where, had it not existed, you would have made it yourself, note for note. The musical hooks and melodies you notice are the ones that more or less mimic the musicality of your own speech, the ones that get your foot tapping are the ones that are laid over your internal mental state.

You're totally wrong, dude. It wouldn't even make sense if that were the lyric. But whatever....I get the whole opinion/personal taste thing. But I just find it kinda strange that we (myself admittedly included) feel the urge to get on here and state what we think about any given band as fact. Woo, internet. Way to go. lol

The lyric is "drippings from the ceiling". He clearly says it in this video - around the 40 or 50 second mark or something. Don't know if he says it differently later in the song, but if he does that's probably just because he felt like saying it differently at the time.

Ah, the ol' "did he say ceiling or semen" conundrum...stumping the great thinkers for ages! The question that drove Socrates mad. And made Isaac Newton whip it out for the courtier and crank one out just to prove a point. And forever labeled Freud as "that penis-obsessed guy" :o

Re: I Think We Are The Only People Who Like The Smashing Pumpkins. 1 year 4 months ago #107706

He should have said, "drippings from a shotgun." But seriously folks, Kurt often said that lyrics were secondary, so I wouldn't get too caught up in it. I would bet he probably said both at one point or another during performances over the years.

I'm not sure I'm the right person to be talking this though because I'm just not a big Nirvana person. The only song of theirs I really ever truly loved was drain you -- and i do for real dearly love that song. Words and all. It is indeed our duty to drain each other. And we do end up in each others' infections. How very right on.
