Kurt Cobain, could sing, but I just don't think he had the energy Billy did. Kurt always sounded like he was half asleep.

That comment is just wrong.

And of course you pick Tourettes as an example. :p

I just come back from a back to back comparison of Nirvana and SP (listening to "Aero Zeppelin" --> "Geek USA") there's so much more magic, wit, beauty and art to even a stupid hard rocker like "Geek" compared to Nirvana.
And even Kurt's vocals suck compared to Billy's.
...and I still like Nirvana but they are worlds behind SP...WORLDS.

I always thought Geek U.S.A., was a very smart song, a heard rocker with brains. I have always interpreted the lyrics as being about trying blame the rest of the world when it's really you who chose to pick up the evil and embrace it.

That's only the lyrics, it's those guitar and drums propel this song out of this world and on to the thrown of god.

ok he wasnt half asleep but he still sucked.

imo, billy is a great songwriter/composer he's like prog rock that fits... or something like that.
I think the pumpkins couldve been better if they had a lead singer 5th bandmate...
he's a pretty good guitar player, but i put that with his songwriting, since his greatest guitar work isnt too technical.

Like I've always said, Nirvana didn't invent Punk Rock, but Smashing Pumpkins did invent Psychedelic Rock, Progressive Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Jazz, Folk Rock, Gothic Rock, and Pop Rock fusion.

Singer? No.

He sang a thousand times better than Marble-Mouth Kurt Cobain or Mush-Mouth Tom York, Billy's voice is like Louis Armstrong, it's perfect even if it does not fit in the box.

Kjrain12, Billy's Pre-Gish Era, Zwan Era, and 20th Anniversary Tour Vocals were mind blowing too!

I suggest you go listen to Cobain's screams on Paper Cuts and Yorke's Pyramid Song.

Billy Corgan the most underrated? A possibility. I more look at him as misunderstood. Not that I know things that other people don't, but here's a guy who's been the driving force between a truly intense amount of material starting in the late '80's -- the late '80's!!!!! With only a short break in the early 2000's. Outside of that, it's been constant music, music, music.... but everyone wants to ask him about his childhood or how he feels about it.

It takes a true discipline, a true dedication, a true professional -- with a LOT of faith and a TON of guts to pull off what he's pulled off. I think everyone should focus on his huge amount of accomplishments in audio, video, and the idea machine he's been to release and produce music in innovative ways(including through today) rather than how he feels about his fight with james or how isolated he was as a child. Are those things relevant? Probably, but his accomplishments are truly massive.

Not to mention that most of his "fans" want him to make a new Siamese Dream, and persist that everything after The Airplane Flies High was terrible. Can you believe that there are people who listen to To Sheila, For Martha, Crestfallen, and Blank Page and think they're terrible?

The guys music is amazing but he hardly gets the recognition he deserves.

Listen to "Bryter Layter". That's my favorite. Some prefer Pink Moon but hot damn, Bryter Layter is perfect. Well, they're both perfect in their own way, but BRYTER LAYTER IS WHERE ITS AT!! :D
