So, the Pumpkins are supposed to be doing a "global" tour this year, and currently have a bunch of Australasia dates announced, along with a Chicago date.

And I don't think this has been mentioned anywhere else on here: they played a show on Thursday in Madrid.

I didn't know whether to spoiler-tag the set - let me know if you think I should.

2012.05.24 / Sala Arena, Madrid

1. Black Diamond [KISS]
2. Zero
3. Bullet with Butterfly Wings
4. Today
5. Starla
6. The Beginning is the End is the Beginning
7. Quasar
8. Panopticon
9. Tonite Reprise / Tonight, Tonight
10. Ava Adore
11. Neverlost
12. The Everlasting Gaze
13. Oceania
14. 1979
15. Cherub Rock
16. Muzzle

Encore 1:

17. Disarm
18. Space Oddity [David Bowie]
19. X.Y.U.

Encore 2:

20. Black Diamond [KISS]

I reckon some of you guys will think that setlist is too heavy on the hits, but personally, I'd love to see that set. They're playing another show in Portugal tomorrow; it will be interesting to see if they change it up at all. And yes, they did play Black Diamond twice.

XYU is pretty awesome for encore... but agree about being heavy on the hits. It's a very commercial set list. Still will be awesome when they're playing Oceania in full. I hope they find room for the occasional surprise every here or there.

And what's up with playing Black Diamond twice? Did they do that as a joke or ... what..?

there are too many good sp songs that i want to see live that make this set list a bit average... although, if i saw SP and the only obsurity they played was XYU, i couldnt care less about what else they played. my life would be complete. im begging for them to not remove it from the set

Why so hit heavy when they did such a good job with the setlist last tour?

And why Black Diamond twice? Could at least play a different KISS song. Firehouse wouldn't be bad. Or maybe do some Zeppelin. Imagine the Pumpkins doing Achilles Last Stand! That would be fuckin ace!

Hope they come to Boston.

Cool setlist, kind of what they were playing a few years ago, minus the Oceania songs.

Glad to see "The Everlasting Gaze,"..."Neverlost," an interest Zeitgeist selection. I want to hear "United States" live again.

They played nothing past Adore (except for the TGBK/Oceania shit) on the fall US mini-tour. I'd really like some more Machina :D

Not sure why they would have. But for the Rock in Rio show, they only played it once, at the end. And it was pretty awesome, even though I don't really like Kiss :p.

Same setlist tonight, except Black Diamond was only played once, at the end - with Mike Byrne on lead vocals. I'd like to see them throw in some more Mellon Collie tracks, with the reissue coming out (hopefully) this year.

I was glad to see those two as well. I want more Machina. I suspect we will get more as we draw closer to the Machina reissue. I have never seen Neverlost live and have always wanted to, so it was good to see them bringing that out. Yeah as much as I liked to hear Pissant, Geek USA, and all that, it would have been nice to have one song from Machina or something at least on the fall tour.

As for the hits heavy setlists, maybe it's because they were sort of festival shows? Though the first one was a 'not so secret show'. It seemed like a warm up for the festival show though.

Yeah me too. For example, random tracks like "Jellybelly" (which I think even casual fans could get into), "Here is No Why", and "By Starlight". Maybe they could even do "Farewell and Goodnight"...imagine the reactions by people if they did lol.

Anyone have a link to the vid of Mike Byrne singing Black Diamond?

I think SP should cover "A Small Victory" by Faith No More, it would fit BC's voice perfectly, haha! :)

The thing with ending the set with a cover, is that it's very hit and miss. If the Pumpkins covered a song I love, then I'd be really excited. But I don't love KISS, and have never heard Black Diamond, so I'd be disappointed if I were there (much like when they finished with Lips Like Sugar by Echo and the Bunnymen, when I saw them in 2008).

I HATE Kiss, but I wouldn't be disappointed at all. They played a great set,and I'm sure Black Diamond rocked out. It seems like it would be a fun intro/outro, even though I have never heard the song either.

I don't like Kiss either but I thought they did an awesome job with the song. I don't think I was familiar with the song before either. But i admit I would have preferred they end off with one of their songs though

I really liked how they used a part of "Tonite Reprise" as an intro before launching into a full band "Tonight, Tonight":

Having watched the whole show 4 times through now I can honestly say that is one of the best Pumpkins shows I’ve ever seen and this line up is really killing it now. So many highlights but Everlasting Gaze and X.Y.U confirm what a lot of us had slight doubts about. This line up can seriously rock!

Neverlost was also incredible! Best version I’ve ever heard. The Pumpkins “are back” and in a serious way, we should all feel very lucky right now.

Also, you know what, letting Jimmy walk was the best thing for this band.

Re: 2012 Tour 1 year 3 weeks ago #113053

That has to be the shittiest, most lifeless crowd I've ever seen. And is it the low quality audio, or is it live tracking Autotune turned up to 11 that makes Billy's vocals sound so weird? But other than that, pretty good mix on the concert, great setlist.

An wow, this is the best version of Starla I've ever heard. Holy sheet. Anyone else notice the Ebow on Tonite? (:james ) Also this version of Oceania is much better, an easy 9 and a deserved place as a Pumpkins epic. Much more psychedelic than the version I heard before.

I'm sure it rocked out - it's just, for a set closer, I like a song that has more impact for me personally.

I only watched bits and pieces of the videos so as not to spoil it all, but those along with the setlist were enough to make me really want them to play in England over the summer. While I'm totally biased because Mellon Collie is my favourite album by the band, if they were to lean towards it due to the reissue, I'd love to hear Jellybelly, Here Is No Why, Fuck You, Galapogos, Thirty-Three and In the Arms of Sleep.

This line up has emphatically proven they can seriously rock, Everlasting Gave was just amazing. I really think we could see Jellybelly etc I'd love to hear Where boys fear to tread personally.
