Well, I always thought people were a bit quick to dismiss Mike - I felt it was mainly just because he was young.
Of course, Jimmy can never truly be replaced, but Mike is showing that he's another very talented drummer.

Mikes not the new Jimmy, he's the new Mike...
I really hope that when Billy finds a new Bass player the line up can stay together for years to come and really become a "band"

Why can't we hear any of this talent on the actual EP?

It's there. Listen closer. He throws all kinds of crazy shit into Widow and Astral Planes.

I just realized we don't have a Mike smiley. We really need one. And why do we have Linda Strawberry? Who would ever use her? Fuck Linda Strawberry.

''Jimmy who'' is a bit far but yes, I am impressed by Mike's performance. The drumming on the EP is nothing special but that's because the songs didn't necessarily require anything special.

Oh yeah, I mean I already liked Mike's style, but after seeing the videos from this performance I'm just blown away!

Yeah, it would be really nice to have that "band" feel again...even if D'arcy and James contributed virtually nothing, they were always a familiar, sexy presence during the live performances.
Jeff may be a bit cute, but he's not sexy
Ginger, damn, she was hot! But she's gone now.
And Mike, too much baby fat pudge. Needs to man up still. Man, I sound so gay now.

*facepalm* I'll just never understand why everyone thinks this kid is so great. To call him the new Jimmy Chamberlin is just plain disrespectful. Just from watching a cell phone video of the record store performance even? In my opinion, there's just no deep bass to his drumming or any variety to his playing. All I hear when I listen to him is the the high sharp "Thok" sound of the snare and cymbal crashes. Maybe he needs to play with more drums. /rant

ever think that the means of video capture could have something to do with that? not to mention, how the sound guy chose to mix the drums or the method you choose to listen to the clips can have something to do with how you hear mike's playing...
anyway, he's no jimmy. only jimmy chamberlin can come in and play like pumpkins drums like jimmy, but mike seems to be holding is own quite well and there's no denying the kid's got talent.

To say Mike has replaced Jimmy is absurd. For one, he's only playing covers of what Jimmy created. Until he comes up with some decent fills and creates some creditable music. I'm still not on board. I will say that he played a pretty damn good version of Tristessa, but it was far from perfect. He messed up the end/or maybe he can't play it properly. Anyway, great job Mike....but I still prefer JImmy.

He did a moderately acceptable job of following along to a beat Jimmy Chamberlin created 20 years ago. He didn't even execute the parts perfectly. Toward the end of that video, he was a half note behind on every stroke. Sorry, but you're just showing your ignorance if you truly believe this statement. Like Pete said, until he shows me something of HIS OWN that is impressive, I'm not on board. ....and he hasn't done that yet.

Mike is 19, when Jimmy joined the pumpkins he was what,26ish. Mike has a long drumming career a head of him and I'm pretty sure he's not far from what Jimmy was at 19.
I just think that seeing a 19 year old taking over the reigns of probably the greatest rock drummer ever like he did is nothing short of amazing! I've been a pumpkins fan for 18 years now so I think I know what I'm talking about.
Sure I miss jimmy but I'm excited for Mike. The King is dead, Long live the King,,,
