Teargarden is either a really long hello or a really drawn out goodbye. I'll go with hello for now.
I hope he doesn't break up the band again.

I just read the interview, and rushed here to post it, using the exact same quote, but I was beaten to it!
Anyway.
All I'll say is, I think songs five thru eight are better than the first four.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Other than his "God/Truth/Love" comment, he seemed quite sensible.

I took it as he meant the songs. Which compared to other SP2 stuff, it is - or at least some of it is.

Apparently.
I don't know, like he said-we look into what he says too much.

I think some parts of Zeitgeist are quite dark but not the album as a whole! Lyrically, I think it's really good although that's probably contrary to what a lot of people think and is certainly contrary to the majority of reviews I've read.

Don't you hate how that happens? He does interviews like this which makes me respect him again but later he'll pull another RS type interview or a crazy twitter rant you.

I'm thinking he meant that zeitgeist was dark in its supposed political matter.

HA! There is no band left. It's him and a kid who plays drums along to all of his ideas.

I think there may be some differences in how this interview was conducted versus the Rolling Stone interview. This interview was done by email in which all the questions were laid out and Billy just responded with his answers. In the Rolling Stone interview the interviewer had complete control. He was spending several days with Billy, taking notes, listening to conversations, asking questions and making observations. He then took all the information he gathered and edited the way he felt necessary. Which I believe Linda Strawberry commented as "lazy journalism." So you have to take into consideration how the information is presented. Rolling Stone wants to sell magazines…Ultimate Guitar doesn’t have much stake in selling something.

I fail to see how researching your subject matter, spending days directly at the side of your interviewee, and gathering facts (both positive and negative) is "lazy journalism" in contrast to typing up a bunch of questions in an email and waiting for the reply.
Most of that interview came across as an unprepared interviewer grasping at subject matters he thinks will instigate a response of some sort.
Not saying the RS interview didn't contain any kind of spin whatsoever, but this article seems a lot more "lazy" to me.

I don't think the intention of this interview was to put forth an article, per se. What I was trying to get across is that the two are unrelated. Ultimate Guitar is not a traditional periodical. The writer just had the opportunity to email a few questions over to Billy and that's that. There was no need to 'spin' a story, or write anything extra. I personally don't think the Rolling Stone article was lazy, I was just reiterating what Linda Strawberry said. But most of that article was written by the RS writer with quotes from Billy mixed in.....how he got to those quotes, or got Billy to open up about the subject is another matter. So I could see how some things may have been taken out of context or portrayed negatively. But in an interview like this, there shouldn’t be much room for a grey area. So I think it’s unfair to compare how Billy comes across in one media to the next.

Agreed. When a talkative "I can't shut up) kind of guy like Billy is responding with simple No's... you're doing something wrong.
Also, I agree that Zeitgeist was dark, the guitars, the language, damn near everything. Hell it even had a song called 7 shades of Black. It makes Mellon Collie look cheerful.
