I like the suggestion that the new music might be more proggy - SP touched on progressive rock at times in the 90s, and I always thought Billy could do some great prog/experimental stuff... so it would be nice to see something like that.

Also nice to hear it's getting more of a full band vibe again :)

It was a good interview. Did anyone else find this quote a little odd?
"Jimmy's one of the best drummers in that world. But that busy style was something I kind of had to encourage Jimmy to do because it just seemed to sort of work with the music."

It just seems Billy always finds a way to take credit for the music.

The interview is alright, but this quote is just Billy bullshit :upset ! Jimmy is one of the world's greatest drummers (and my favorite drummer) all BY HIMSELF...I don't think Billy encouraged him to be "better"...and I think Jimmy left Pumpkins because he got bored by the stuff he had to drum!
Let's face it: The man is a groover, a jazzer, a real octopus and drumming god; every good drummer would have been bored by the crap Billy used to record the last few years.
Jimmy is the only reason for me to pick up Shitgeist once a year.

mostly i thought it was a fairly decent interview, but that quote bothered me too. i can see maybe having to keep him on task when he was on drugs, but you can't take credit for his talent and jazz style.

He sure is living up to his "Billy the Egomaniac" title :D

Way to diss Ginger too, calling it the "best lineup since the original" right after she was replaced

That Jimmy quote is so ridiculous.

that's true Venison and i also thought it was funny when he was calling this new person "the favorite person I've ever had in the band to play bass." another diss to all of the rest.

"The first four that are out were sort of not really difficult to understand because they've been played live a bit. I think that with the second four that haven't come out yet, that are done and mixed and everything, I think when people hear those songs they'll start to see a transition into different uses of the guitars, different uses of technology, and [that I'm trying] to integrate some of these other influences to create a bigger sound for the band.

The next four are 100% completed and ready to roll. GET ON WITH RELEASING THEM, THERE BUDDY!!!!

haha, that's kind of strange

but yeah, I noticed that too--he's got all those other songs ready and mixed but is holding them out for this never-ending-schedule??!

that confirms what I've suspected all along, Bolly just wants to stay in the limelight for as long as possible. it's like it's less about conveying or communicating a significant body or work of art, and more about him reliving past glories and prolonging his 'rock star status'....well, joke's on him! Belly, you suck

Thanks Pete!

Wow, two things that kept me most:
Teargarden WILL take 3-4 years :sigh .
And if Billy was a fan, he'd also cling on the original lineup of the band....that's cool and honest :yay .

He finally gives off a chill, mature vibe in that interview. Its nice that he says it's cool if we think the new music sucks. Straight from the horse's mouth, I feel a bit more at peace now :yay

Re:Billy Corgan on the Pumpkin's Future 2 years 11 months ago #68058

Yeah, that was a good interview. I liked the bit where he talked about songs giving an individual feeling to each listener and that he enjoyed the vagueness of Song For A Son. I like songs where the lyrics can be a bit vague or cryptic, and I don't care what the writer was meaning with them, I'm only interested in what they make me feel and how I interpret them.

The bits towards the end were cool too - about the old line up and whether or not people like the current music. I have to give him some of my respect back now, though not as much as he lost with other recent interviews ;)
