Does anyone have any updates? we still havent heard anything since the official site said that they have the producer.

i would have thought that we would have heard about it before if there was any.
im starting to get hopefull that james is in, because billy isnt stupid and would realise that without an original member, it would be JUST like zwan- and he doesnt want to reform zwan- he wants to reform the pumpkins.
do you think i have a point? or am i just being naive?

yeah, i agree, it would make it great, but i will still listen to it and give it a chance no matter what, as long as billy and jimmy are in and doing there thing i dont think it will be crap, just not quiet as good as it could be.

I do agree partly that with only 2 original members I'm not sure they should go by the name of the Smashing Pumpkins. But I guess they will be playing with musical styles and ideals of the Pumpkins... well, hopefully. And it means they'll play all their old songs at live shows, which will at least be some consolation if the new album follows the trend of Billy's last few efforts.

Billy has said (sorry i dont have a direct quote) that the pumpkins has a soul, its not just the members but it is something deeper than that, so i will still give it a good chance wether james and darcy are in or not. And i am still going to see the concert wether they are in or not.

Really, Billy wrote most of the Pumpkin's songs, whereas Zwan wrote songs as a band... that one difference, I guess

But the Pumpkins really do have there own ideals and styles, so I think if billy says it will be the Smashing Pumpkins, it'll be the Smashing Pumpkins, with or without D'arcy or James

I realize that Billy is the backbone of SP, but with only two original members, it might seem jsut a little too flakey. Like their grasping at straws. I think you need at least three orginal Pumpkins to be called "The Smashing Pumpkins." I know past members have been interchangable, like during Jimmy's absence and Melissa replacing D'arcy but it would just be too extreme if Billy and Jimmy were the only original members IMO.

i'll be happy that "the smashing pumpkins" have reformed, but i wont be happy that its just . you'd expect with all this secrecy that billy has another original member up his sleeve...

Who knows what Billy has planned. He probably checks this (and every other SP forum daily) just to watch us squirm! maybe they don't have a second guitarist and bassist. Maybe right now, while they're recording Billy is playing all the guitar/bass parts.
