TOPIC: What tracks would you replace on each album?

What tracks would you replace on each album? 2 years 6 months ago #73955

If Billy was to reissue all the albums, what tracks recorded from that time period would you choose to replace counterparts from the album?. To answer this just write out the tracklist of your enhanced version of the album. Note : the albums must still remain at their original number of tracks. Songs can be reorganised too E.G Today being track number 10 on SD.

Most of my changes are minor, b/c not only do I like most of the songs on the albums, I see them as a cohesive piece of art that would be damaged if it was changed too much.

Gish - Replace Crush with Daughter.

SD - Replace Quiet with Hello Kitty Kat, Sweet Sweet with Whir.

MCIS - Replace Tales of A Scorched Earth with Marquis In Spades.

Machina - Replace "Heavy Metal Machines" with "Here's To The Atom Bomb", and "Blue Skies Bring Tears" with Speed Kills.

Zeitgeist - The only album I would change a signifigant amount. I think the B-Sides are better than many of the songs on the album, as well as some singles released shortly after the album. Here's the tracklist (a bit uneven, but it's my ideal Zeitgeist).

1. "G.L.O.W."
2. "Death From Above"
3. "Bleeding the Orchid"
4. "That's the Way (My Love Is)"
5. "Tarantula"
6. "Starz"
7. "United States"
8. "FOL"
9. "Ma Belle"
10. "(Come On) Let's Go!"
11. "For God and Country"
12. "Zeitgeist"

I'd replace Crush with the first C'mon
Then replace Wound with the rock version of Saturnine

Then I'd make zeitgeist an EP: (properly mastered of course)

1. Doomsday Clock
2. 7 Shades Of Black
3. Bleeding The Orchid
4. United States
5. Neverlost
6. Ma Belle
7. C'mon Let's Go

Cool. Liking the Zeitgeist EP idea, and The Other Revamped Zeitgeists. You can include the residencys if you want and stuff like gossamer.

Id made some crazy adjustments to Machina I. Seeing as i count Machina II as B-sides not an album. Id do :

1 - Hope (Instrumental Intro)
2 - Stand Inside Your Love
3 - Raindrops + Sunshowers
4 - Everlasting Gaze
5 - Saturnine (Rock)
6 - Speed Kills (Alt)
7 - The Sacred And Profane
8 - I of The Morning
9 - In My Body
10 - Glass and Ghost Children
11 - Blue Skies Bring Tears
12 - The Crying Tree Of Mercury
13 - This Time
14 - Hope
15 - Pale Scales

The only record I would change is Zeitgeist! It had SO MUCH potential when looked at overall, even though I think it's still pretty good!

I would have a more mellow track-listing:

1. Tarantula
2. 7 Shades of Black
3. Starz
4. Again
5. Bring the Light
6. Stellar
7. FOL
8. Neverlost
9. That's the Way
10. The Rose March
11. Ma Belle
12. Sunkissed

Why? You wouldn't want to hear the other songs? And where the fuck is Tarantula?

I'd make Zeitgeist a giant album including all the bonus tracks, American Gothic, Signal To Noise, FOL, G.L.O.W. and Superchrist.

Siamese Dream - replace Luna with Starla

Zeitgeist Reordered (I actually listen to it like this anyway)

1. Doomsday Clock
2. 7 Shades of Black
3. Daydream (live acoustic)
4. Death From Above
5. Tarantula
6. Starz
7. United States
8. Superchrist
9. Stellar
10. For God and Country
11. Pomp and Circumstances
12. Gossamer
.............................................................

By the way - does anyone have Signal To Noise? I've never come across it.

Matt Walker's band covered Signal To Noise, but the SP version hasn't surfaced I believe.

It was on that myspace tribute album to the Pumpkins, if that helps. Here's a Youtube link.

Yeah, that was me. In 2008, at the Atlantic City show, I told Billy that I thought "Signal to Noise" was a great song. He said, "Thank you. There's actually an acoustic demo if it." :billy

Re:What tracks would you replace on each album? 2 years 6 months ago #74053

Adore is the only album that I wouldn't change, it's perfect. It would have been interesting if "Once in a While", or "Let Me Give the World to You" were included, though. However, I think that would have taken away from the dark atmosphere of the album. I also don't know what I would do with Gish. It's my least favorite album. I do know that Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness would be a hell of a lot better if "Take Me Down" were replaced with "Set the Ray to Jerry". I also agree that the Zeitgeist b-sides should have been on the album. "Stellar", "Ma Belle", and "Zeitgeist" are all beautiful.
MACHINA/The Machines of God could have been a perfect album had it had the right songs on it. I'm not sure what order I would put these in, but these songs together would have made the album great:
"Age of Innocence", "Blue Skies Bring Tears", "With Every Light", "Wound", "This Time", "Try, Try Try", "I of the Mourning", "Stand Inside Your Love", "Raindrops + Sunshowers", "Pale Scales", "Let Me Give the World to You", "Home", "In My Body", "The Everlasting Gaze", and "Heavy Metal Machine" or "White Spyder".

Of course not... all those other songs are the only ones in the entire SP catalogue I can't stand.

Read The Cask Of Amontillado and replace "Fortunado" with "Tarantula". Sure as hell makes me feel better. :james

That's a good song and I'd love to hear the SP version... but was that cover on a tribute album? Seems a bit weird to do a "tribute" from a song that no one's actually heard...

It was pretty stupid having MDR cover a Pumpkins song that's actually never seen the light of day.

And I agree with Ryon, Tarantula is the ultimate rock song!
