Sorry, didn't realise James, D'arcy and Jimmy were involved in the re-masters. You've convinced me - they'll be great!!

Also, the band shouldn't have let the records be released poorly mastered in the first place. But hey, every band releases re-masters these days - is that because all old albums were poorly created in the first place, or a marketing ploy to tempt fans into re-buying albums the already own?? Hmmm... no, you're probably right...

So, I just asked Kerry Brown on Twitter about whether or not Zeitgeist was going to see another release. He responded with, "my guess is yes"!

Oceania is a cool idea (and a cool name), and I'm really looking forward to the re-issues, if they are more in line with the idea of a boxset, instead of just an extra disc of thrown-together b-sides.

I am not excited, however, that the band will finally be coming back to Europe DURING THE THREE MONTHS WHEN I'M GOING TO BE IN CHICAGO. That's too ironic for me. :dead

I get the vibe Oceania is going to be huge, roaring, and swirling like the ocean :) ....if such things can be construed from album titles

Awesome.

But wouldn't you agree that William's taste in sonics has gone around the twist compared to SP1? Can you imagine the magnum opi we all know and love mastered in the vein of SFAS or Doomsday Clock? I get a horrible pit in my stomach just thinking of that possibility. True, from SFAS to Lightning Strikes the sound has drastically improved, but still, Chris Lord Alge and Kerry Brown are NOT Butch Vig or Flood. I've said countless times the biggest, and only, problem with SP2 is the production. I feel uncomfortable with this era's Pumpkins applying their weakest point to the old classics.

i have to say Billy didn't dissapoint today. :thumbsup this made my year.

i'm glad to hear that he finally has control back from EMI and also that he will be going back to making an album and that we will actually see Machina as it was supposed to be. the way i see it this is pretty much getting everything you could possibly want for Christmas. plus he also sounded like he was suggesting that we will see some archive goodies.

as for the remasters- sure we have all the albums, demos, etc currently known to man- but i still like the idea because i'm hoping for something along the lines of the boxsets he was talking about with special inserts. and Corgan always does put together nice releases with fantastic album art/ packaging regardless.

also, even though we may have a lot of the material others don't. we are fans at a more extreme level. the way i figure remasters with the addition of rare b-sides and demos can only serve to expose others to how great the pumpkins are and how strong of a body of work Corgan has. and you know, i'm ok with that. it might not be new material to me/ us, but to most these b-sides and demos will be totally unheard material to appreciate. unlike most bands who issue remasters with the odd extra track or demo Corgan's extras and throw away tracks are just as brilliant as the album tracks. we know all know this, and with these re-issues maybe others will get to see this too.

oh, and we don't know he is going to "remaster" the crap out of everything.

Show me where Billy said Kerry Brown is remastering all of their work?

You'd be surprised at the leaps and bounds technology makes in 10 years. The fact of the matter is, this has and always will be Billy's work. What ever he does with it is consistent with his artistic vision.

People, when the Beatles remasters came out a couple years ago, they didn't sound like Fall Out Boy. It's still the Beatles, it's just of a higher sound quality. If you have sentimental connections to the lower quality music, then be my guest and listen to your old CDs. I still prefer mono Beatles to stereo.

But he's not ruining YOUR music for you.

i really don't see why anybody can be pissed either. he mentioned Machina/ Machina II, the Metro show, a new album, a tour, special re-issues, Owata, vinyl, archive material, etc... he is pretty much giving us everything we have been wanting for a long assed time over the next couple years. :roll

and like Rivers said, no where does it say he is going to remaster the hell out of everything to the the point of being a different album. he only really mentioned remixing Machina. he never explicitly stated that he is going to massacre our precious SD and MCIS for a re-issue.

If anyone is confused on a proper remaster look up The Beatles and Pearl Jams. They both enhance drums and bass (which were too low/soft in their original release). And they usually properly remix all of the individual tracks/channels from the instruments for a smoother cohesion or whatever you can call it.

Billy's recent mixing history has not been too good. I would hate to see these albums butchered by bad remastering.

I might be the only person who thinks that most remasterd albums don't sound that good, at least from what have heard.

Will this put SP back on the map? I don't think so. There have been planety of bands who remaster all their albums and they don't end up back on top, even if they once were.

Also, the best news of all is Machina. I can't wait for it, but that 2013 date..don't hold your breath.

Disintegration by The Cure turned out really well, re-mastered - I actually heard things on the new version that I missed, or at least paid little attention to, on the original. Porcupine Tree have some good re-masters as well. Most, I find, make little difference, other than increasing the volume. I agree, given the recent output, that Billy re-mastering stuff now could actually be a bad thing. And like you said, they don't need it anyway. I'll probably buy them for the "unreleased" stuff anyway.

And yeah, I don't think this will put SP back on the map. I think the days of big bands are pretty much behind us now anyway, especially as far as rock bands go.

I wasn't saying all remasters are bad. I'm not against remasters as long as nothing gets ruined. I just don't want Billy's current mixing preference on this new stuff.

I did just think I can now own MCIS on vinyl. :D

Billy mentioned "free music" I wonder what stuff will be released free, besides Teargarden.

Thanks to my true love ryon for that precisely list :D .
After reading thru that one, the thing that keeps me most exciting is till the new album and to see Bolly and puppets live after an absence of four years.
And yes, I am excited by these news.
Dunno if the remasters should really excite my, though, I'm going to fetch MACHINA, MCIS and Pisces on vinyl, too...

YES! This is awesome! Thank you Billy!

Now it's just a matter of if he can actually pull all of this off and pull it off well. I'm probably most excited about the new album and the Machina re release. I also hope to hear the full studio take of "Let Me Give The World To You" from Adore era.

Also, what could they possibly add to a b-sides boxset like Aeroplane?

What really will seal the deal for me is if Billy packages the reissues with extensive liner notes. (preferably him commenting on all the songs, inspiration, intended meaning etc.)
Maybe we will get an official release of Mashed Potatoes?

Anyway, this rocks!

Re: Tuesday 26th April Announcement day. 2 years 4 weeks ago #83488

First off,let me preface my post with saying how thrilled and ecstatic I am that Owata will indeed be the next track. This track reminds of Pennies in a way.Classic, bubbly, melodic, fun lyrics and very hooky.Instantly accessible and classic pumpkins.I remember saying back in 2009 that I hoped we would get studio versions of A song for a son,Tom Tom, and Owata. Then when Teargarden began I was relentlessly posting and campaigning for this track to be on the record.I was really crossing my fingers for this or Lonely is the name. Lo and behold,I got what I wanted.I will be pleased with the electric or acoustic version of this as both versions are wonderful. What a great way to round out the 10 songs released so far and a great Summertime song. I was really hoping since 2004 that the archive material would see light of day.I saw Billy at his book signing in San Fran at the Fillmore theater. I was smack dab front and center in that big theater with my ex boyfriend. He mentioned it back then.So I am aware of the stubborn uphill battle that he has been fighting with EMI for years. With that said,I think this time around is the real deal.He would not have reminded everybody a few times in a row if this wasn't something that was going to pack a punch. So yes,Im thrilled.I feel he would not have gone through all this epic trouble over the years to get this stuff released if there wasn't something there of substance and qaulity. And I intuitively feel that, and rarely is my intuition wrong.I smell unreleased stuff from a mile away....Towers of Rabble,Pale Scales, ect ect ect......The reissues wont be rehashes,I strongly believe there will be some real unreleased unheard songs and how exciting this will be! If I got Towers of Rabble,Psalm 131 and The leaving Lament I will be one happy bitchy fag.Now as far as delays go Im expecting that. Will this next collection be released Sept 1? I can only hope as that would be the ultimate birthday present as my bday is the 4th.I really do like Teargarden but my anger came from the big gap between Tom Tom and Lightning Strikes.I feel Lighting is indeed the weakest track but like Widow it is growing on me.So Owata is truly a blessing as the next installment to this collection and chapter of SP.Im sure Autumn will bring some exciting unreleased stuff and digital freebies from the archives to download as Billy said
