Me too. I thought it was easily apparent it was the best TbK song by a country mile. Unlike the forgettable people I've got the entire thing memorized note by note, seeing how I've listened to it.... 163 times according to my (evil apple) iTunes. Strange to see so many people didn't think anything of it :o :o :o :o Or think the other songs were better...

Oh, and made a few covers. Acoustic, full electric, Bugg Superstar-ish dorky electronic reinterpretation.....:james

I would if I wasn't so embarrassed :) there is a reason i haven't submitted them to the covers section and it's not because I have celine dion's voice :)

Holy off-topcs, Batman!

Back to Owata...

I'm looking forward to hearing it. If it's anything close to what they played at Terminal 5 I'll be really happy, and will have a favorite TGBK song.

I have absolutely no expectations to like this song. Both because the recent track record has set the bar kind of low in my book and because I never liked the live performances of this song from the beginning.

Ha, I was just about to say I bet even the old SP fans would like this because of its (live performance at least) cool, relaxed 1979 vibe.

I listened to Owata a few times when they first played it live, but haven't listened again since. i remember not being as impressed with that as I was with other stuff they were playing at the time like As Rome Burns and The March Hare, but I can't remember what it was like. So my hopes aren't all that high for tomorrow, but I don't really know what to expect.

Yeah I'd forgotten what most of the Teargarden songs sound like already, so went back and had another listen, just to be sure I haven't missed an hidden gem :D ..... unfortunately I'll probably forget about them again in a day or two :(

Sometimes I'm not sure if people are being serious, or you guys just really loathe Teargarden. I can read a song name and know exactly how the song goes.

I'm being serious, the only songs I can remember are Cottonwood Symphony and WWMM .... the later song for being bad.

Lightning Strikes struck me (no pun intended) as a good when it was first released and I still think its a pretty good song. One of the stronger efforts from Teargarden.
You're obliged to pretend respect for people and institutions you think absurd. You live attached in a cowardly fashion to moral and social conventions you despise, condemn, and know lack all foundation. It is that permanent contradiction between your ideas and desires and all the dead formalities...

I'm being serious too. I can read song titles and immediately recognize the old SP stuff because that was music that struck me to my core. Songs I could identify with that left a lifelong impression on me. All of teargarden has failed to communicate anything to me, which is why I forget what the songs sound like with relative quickness....and I never feel inspired to go back and listen to them again. I've tried to force it to happen, but these songs just don't speak to me.

I agree with you to some extent. I've made this argument before, but I think it's impossible for any music (new SP included) to resonate with me the way music did when I was younger. There’s something about youth where you’re able to immerse yourself in a certain music/time that I really don’t think is possible with adulthood. Plus, I’ve had 15+ years with those songs, so it’s really hard to beat familiarity…and I think a lot of people (myself included) put up a guard to make sure this new music never outshines the old.

Oops, I totally blanked out when I voted on this. I just plain wasn't paying attention, and for some reason thought I was registering my opinion on Lightning Strikes. Sorry.

...and on to Owata. I do have higher expectations for this song. I've always liked it, despite it being overwhelming cheesy. It has a really nice melody. I would prefer more of an acoustic arrangement, along the lines of the original. But I know it’s going to be more like the current incarnation of the song. Still nice though….I just loved the way that opening riff starts on the acoustic.
