Exactly. I love (and miss) those days.

That's where you're wrong and where you and Billy both share the misperception. Fans - Actual Fans - of the band don't want to hear those songs anymore, but the casual concert-goer, fair-weather fan of SP are those that scream to hear them. Most of us want to hear obscure oldies and brand new tracks, but its the bitching of the many casual fans that keeps those tracks in the setlist.

Billy's said on numerous occasions (ignorantly) that "The Fans" are stuck in the past and want "the Singles". In reality, "The Fans" want quite the opposite.

I still wouldn't mind hearing those songs live if I went to an SP concert.

He didn't say "singles", he said "key-work". Which is Mayonaise, Thru The Eyes of Ruby, Soma, and the singles. It's the stuff the fans respond to most. Which fans do want to hear. And myself being a massive fan, I wouldn't want to see a show without any "key-work".

You know, I remember how much people bitched about what he played on the 20th Anniversary Tour. 'Too many covers blah blah blah.'

The reviews were scathing, and not just due to his bad attitude. Critics were shitting on him for not playing the right setlists, with fan favorites. Here are the typical double-night setlists from that tour.

Night 1
-Roctopus
-Everybody Come Clap Your Hands [Searchers]
-Tarantula
-G.L.O.W.
-Siva
-Eye
-Mayonaise
-Tonight, Tonight
-Speed Kills
-Transformer

-Superchrist
-United States
-Once Upon a Time
-Again, Again, Again (The Crux)
-The Rose March
-Today
-Bullet with Butterfly Wings
-The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning

-Heavy Metal Machine
-Glass' Theme
-Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun [Pink Floyd]

Encore:

-We Only Come Out at Night
-Everything Is Beautiful [Ray Stevens]

Night 2

-Ava Adore
-Cupid de Locke
-1979

-99 Floors
-Owata
-Sunkissed
-Soma
-Cherub Rock
-Zero
-Bodies
-Crestfallen
-I of the Mourning

-A Song for a Son
-Landslide [Nicks]
-Disarm
-Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
-Galapogos

-Gossamer
-As Rome Burns
-The Sounds of Silence [Simon]
> Li'l Red Riding Hood [Blackwell]
-The March Hare
> Suffer
-Age of Innocence

Encore:

-That's the Way (My Love Is)
-I Am One Pt. 2

Beyond that, he also whipped out Medellia Of The Gray Skies & Stand Inside Your Love towards the end of the tour.

I've bolded the singles, album-cuts and obscurities. Over the course of two nights, they played 10 of their biggest singles. 12 album cuts of shit that hadn't played live in forever. 6 obscure b-sides/outtakes/soundtrack songs. Not to mention how many newer songs.

Still, I remember how much people bitched. I understand his attitude on that tour was shit, but every fan criticism I read at the time and each review I came across bitched and moaned about how the sets don't cater to the fans.

The previous poster is right about the sets last tour. You really expect Billy to whip out Ruby or XYU or the like when his line-up is so fresh? Hell, I'm surprised he still played Gossamer.

Next tour will draw heavily on Oceania, with perhaps some TbK cuts. I imagine Billy will play a couple obscure tracks, as well as the inevitable Bullet & Tonight x2 to satiate the morons in the crowd.

In my opinion, regardless of who was in the band..
2007 and 2008 setlists were Masterpieces...
And 2010 setlists were just ok

Yeah, 07 and 08 had amazing setlists.

I'm not hating on 2010's live shows, anytime I get to see them live, regardless of what they play is always awesome, but comparing the last tour with 2007 and 2008, no comparison.

I don't think either of those are too farfetched to hope for.

It's cuts like XYU or Geek USA that I never expect him to dust off. Again. Same for Soma & Mayo, after that tour. :(

But yes, no matter what they play...it is always a good show. I actually liked the NYC show in 2010 better because Billy was really into it and the energy was immense. In 2008, I may have heard Bodies & I of the Mourning, but they truly sounded like they were merely going thru the motions. Still killer, though. And I got to see Jimmy live with the band before he left. I'm satisfied.

I really hope he draws heavily from Oceania next tour (assuming it is good, that is). Add the better TbK songs and a couple old favorites...I'll be happy. Hell, if he played Ruby as the ONLY old song in the set, I'd still be buzzing. :)

He tons of Oceania would be cool, but like you said, only if its good.
