I think Zeitgeist is a great album, and totally not what I was expecting. Some of my Pumpkin-fan friends got it, others not so much. I don't have a problem with the production actually, but then I'm not a musical expert. Zeitgeist has such a dark raw feel to it, and as much as the haters will hate, you cannot deny it's fearlessness. A major improvement on the last BC endeavor (Future Embrace) which lacked everything this album has.
I don't think we can hide it from Don though..
Him and others have been looking forward to this moment

I know and it's kind of annoying to me, because just a few really low scores are going to totally drag these songs down
Zeitgeist starts off dark and aggressive, but the second half of the album (though still having some dark moments) is much mellower and at times more uplifiting. But that works quite well in the flow of the album, I think. The first time I listened to it though, I did feel like BC was almost tricking us with some classic MCIS-style songs at the start... but maybe that works well too... starting off almost as an homage to SP 1 and gradually moving away as the album goes on, into SP 2. I'm probably reading too much into that actually
As for the production - this is what me and my friends in the 90s would've called "over-produced"... you can tell there is energy and aggression in the songs, but the production is so slick a lot of that gets lost. But like I said, I'm willing to overlook that, especially as a lot of albums in the last 10 years have the same problem to some extent.
