Pretty good closer. Is it just me or are the vocals between 1:20-1:40 really make any one else cringe? These 20 seconds are my biggest complaint with the album, other then that this album is fantastic.

This one has grown on me immensely. Very delicate and brittle.

Completely agree. Has really grown on me too. And it is an excellent album closer IMO.

For me the most of the songs are great, but this is one of the worst (if not the worth) I´ve ever heard from the band. Sorry :( .

Didn't care much for it at first, but it's definitely growing on me. Still think it's one of the weaker closing tracks.

After way more listens, this song is still the weakest on the album and kinda blah overall for me. Have yet to really get into it.

I think it's one of the weaker songs on the album too. Still like it way better than Pomp and Circumstances and say from Billy's solo stuff, Strayz :p.

So am I the only one who is actually scared by the strange background synths that get louder?

I think Wildflower is the weakest song on the album but in a weird sort of way, it makes perfect sense to have this type of song be the closer especially after the trilogy of The Chimera/Glissandra/Inkless!
In saying that, this song is by no means bad and I think the solo towards the end is one of the albums best moments. It's just again (and I hate comparing these songs to old SP songs) I dont think the song gives us that feeling of closure like say Luna or Age of Innocence does.

Disagree. I think it is a great closer. The "comfort me" portion in the middle is exceptional. I also appreciate the fact that the album starts with a Mark Tulin tribute (Quasar) and ends with a Mark Tulin tribute (Billy indicated that the only reason he wrote this song is that Tulin commented he liked the chord progression):
I came across the song," he recalled to MusicRadar, "and I thought, 'I've just got to do something.' I specifically remember Mark, when I came up with the idea for the song, he was like, 'I love these chords! It's so cool, the way you put the chords together.' He would always say, 'How do you come up with this s--t?' [laughs]"

"To write an entire song around one chord sequence," he continued, "essentially - there's one minor bridge in there - nine-tenths of the song is that same sequence over and over again. It's kind of got a hymn aspect to it. I really like it in that sense because it reminds me of Mark and how he's affected my journey. It's a kind of a sad ending to the record - I didn't intend that, but it's just the way it worked out."

Hmmm, I didn't know that about Wildflower. I think I'll hear it in a completely different way next time I listen to it.

I agree with Strayz, it doesn't have the closure of a typical SP album closer.

It's ambient and sonic structures instead of chorus/vers/chorus.
That makes it special for me.

This song now has grown on me a little. First time I thought it is really bad and boring, but I changed my vote to "medicore". But still the weakest song on the album, and I thought there would have been better songs to end this album.

Re: Wildflower 10 months 1 week ago #114859

I've seen a lot of people saying they wish this song had been left off the album, and...quite frankly, I don't get it! Maybe you think that "Inkless" was a better way to end the album, but I guess I've never been an "album design" sort of person. If a song is good, then I'm glad it's on the album. In my opinion, this song is not just good but it's beautiful and moving and stunning. So, yeah, I'm happy this is on the album and it is definitely one of my favourites from the album (that said, there are 6 songs on the album that I LOVE 100% EQUALLY to each other, and this is one of those).

I want to like this song more, but it still doesn't quite do it for me. I don't mind the idea of a slow song to end the album, although it does seem a bit tacked on right after three of the more upbeat offerings.(especially Inkless right before it). Also, as it plods along I expect it to go somewhere that it never actually reaches. Considering how much I love this album, this does seem an anti-climax. Still, I appreciate the intimacy and emotion in it which at least puts it ahead of many of the early Teargarden songs.

Wildflower

One of my favorite Oceania songs. It's at least in the top four, although I'd say The Celestials, Oceania and Violet Rays are musically better ... but for some reason I think Wildflower might be the most important song on the album for me.

This song really means something. It's like the last three tunes were this re-imagining of the old pumpkins, and this is the break back to reality. The truth that the past is completely gone.

This is also great for writing to. It forces an inner look of self reflection. You see where you've been, where you are, and where you're trying to go.
