I totally agree with the design but for the content I understand what you mean, but its quiet now. The band are most likely (because I don't know) focusing on writing and recording for the new single, I guess thats where we come in. Im sure once things get back into full swing again with tours, releases etc the interaction from the band will pick up. (again just a theory I don't know anything)

maybe its just me. But it feels that since what did happen with the old site. That Billy has lost heart in it. I remember him posting from on the road. Dropping by just to give us a heads up. He has posted, yes to some degree.
It feels like he just doesnt want to do that anymore. That there is no longer that connection, that he once had with all of us.
That is out of the PMM control, I know that.

The bad apples ruined it for us all. And they will ruin this too if they are allowed to do so.
I guess I am just wishing there was a way to bring that back, and to bring it to a new level.

No dig at you, Sunky, and I'm sure the other writers are also going to attempt to make their contributions to the official site different than what was on their own personal sites.
But it feels like people were chosen not just for their writing skills, but because they already had a strong presence in the Pumpkins online community, past or present. And I think if one wants to breathe new life into the current official site, it would be preferable to bring in a group of people who aren't already or haven't been part of the "established", known, online Pumpkins fan world.
And it makes it feel a bit clique-y.

Regarding what ApathysEcstasy brings up, about preferring personal content from the band instead of fans, it would be nice if there were both, but with give and take. It would be nice to have fan-driven content with feedback or input from the band, some sort of dialogue.

First off, I'll tell you that there indeed was somebody from this forum selected here....and it's me. I was hired as an alternate to the 5 main writers. There is additionally one other alternate, and we will be filling in for the main 5 whenever they need a break. You'll be meeting the other alternate on the official website tomorrow, and you'll be officially introduced to me on Sunday. We will not be writing weekly articles, but you will see our material from time to time.

Now.....

You all need to understand that this was never a "contest." This was a hiring procedure to hire paid employees to contribute content to the band's official site. The media militia explained this from day one when this process started. This is not a prize being awarded to people...this is a job being offered to a group of people.

There was no conspiracy to select ONLY people who have connections to the various online SP communities. The ones who were selected were done so based on their writing abilities and their knowledge and passion for the band during the various stages of the application process.

Trust me when I tell you that the group picked has an INCREDIBLE amount of knowledge and connections at its disposal that will bring you some amazing content on the site every single week. You're going to get extremely well written articles that address a wide variety of topics that will be fun to read.

Sit back and enjoy the ride folks....there are some exciting times ahead!!!

well i miss spoke on the contest, cause you are right it wasn't, but it does feel like people were chosen before all the applications were in.

I know I am hypersensitive about the SP site, and that is because of what happened in the past.
There has never been an online SP community that could compare with the SP site, and that is why I feel so protective about the SP site.
I kind of lost sight of the forest because of the trees.
I posted some really negative and hurtful things, even though that was not my intention. It is a 'test run' after all.
But is just because I care, and I have seen what some bad apples can do.
And it is good to see that others care too.

But this is what I am going to do, Im just going to wait and see. Let all this hype blow over, let the dust settle.

bwobw...I'm not clear how you could say it feels the jobs were offered without proper consideration given to everybody.....this application process lasted over the course of several months. I patiently waited for at least 2 months between my first round submission and being notified that I'd made it to round two.

And to apathy's ecstacy....no offense taken...again, just sit back and enjoy this...trust me when I tell you that you are in store for some amazing stuff coming from this group of writers.

PMM can't help it if SP doesn't want to drop by to the site. That's SP's choice, and PMM can't exactly force them.

This is just the beginning, maybe soon things will pick up and SP will want to check it out now and then.

First off all of your concerns are valid.

Second off, I am here to address those concerns and hopefully give some finality here.

I apologize for never rearing my ugly head here and saying "yo", but I didn't think you needed it honestly. This site rules and I pretty much stayed away for being jealous that it does everything I wanted SP.com to do.

There are a lot of great sites out there that put the current SP.com to shame. There are reasons for all of this, but not going to go into that in public.

Anyway, yes ghostchild is an alternate. I will confirm that this is NOT a product of your pleading or comments about not being represented, it's just plain luck and coincidence. Oh and he fit the bill to be a decent candidate for the position! DUH!

I will admit that one person was chosen before I even looked at applications. This was for my sanity. If I had it my way, I would've just hand picked everyone I wanted. Trust me, it would've been WAY easier for me! But that wasn't the way it went down. I have worked in music for a while and trust me, when labels / bands / advertisers hold a "contest", they are usually filling everyone with lies and making things as vague as possible for their benefit and not yours. Most contests don't even have real winners. The real reason? Contests are fucking HARD and take a LOT OF WORK to make as legit as contestants are lead to believe every single contest promotion is.

However

I don't play that game.

I busted my ass for those tarantula videos, I watched every single one! I watched every youtube ask a pumpkin submission also. Did I have to? Probably not and did my efforts do much? I dunno. But this particular instance was first and foremost a job application so no one really needs to prove anything to anyone about how it was conducted. It may be a difficult and brutal lesson to learn, but just because you apply some place, doesn't mean anyone owes you anything. This goes for any job application.

It took a few months because every article was read, sometimes twice and then some. Resumes were not matched up with articles until the articles were separated out. So I think it ended up pretty fair, AND we ended up with a great staff. That is rare!

Yes, this week has all been introductions. We all know it's a little hokey because honestly, why should anyone care about who the PMM is? Consider it a test run for everyone involved and not so much an amazing ride for the community at large. It's ultimately not important. But as some of you have expressed, the SP community thrives! I felt it was necessary for unity amongst the group, and to prove to everyone that we didn't just pick people at random. After we get through this week, if you still have something to gripe about, I will have to listen.

We are going to uncover some serious shit though. Where's your Metro DVD? We're going to find out. Who owns all the copies of Machina II? We'll track 'em down. Who you gonna call? Ghostchildrenbusters, that's who.

Hopefully we get some interaction going so that we can produce what you want to see. But realize not everything can be groundbreaking. We need to introduce new fans to the band as well. There will be a method to the madness.

So for once, let's be HAPPY about something!
