A few fans were able to track down Billy after the "RockWalk" induction yesterday, and he was nice enough to field some questions. Luckily, Monte (from Netphoria) was able to get some pretty good video

  • The Pumpkins are planning a fall tour that will extend beyond the three major cities (New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago) already known to be in their sights.
  • The band is compiling a DVD for release along with an accompanying soundtrack. The DVD will likely include at least some footage of the band’s July 2007 residency in San Francisco.

Hope the Asheville residency makes the DVD too.

    Wicked! *is excited*

EDIT: What was the CD he gave Billy at the start? That was cool for an impromptu interview, he was definitely a lot cooler about seeing him than this guy:

    Dance, Billy, dance.

the guy did talk forever, but he kept the anticipation building. when he listed the albums, he skipped over machina. (he also skipped pisces but that's expected)

yay! i'm excited for the new fall shows. billy said they would be "unique." :)

the only thing that kind of worried me was how he was talking about his fan base and how the general audience have different reactions at concerts and how he might raise ticket prices to scare away the gen. audience from going to shows with old/rare songs they won't enjoy as much as hardcore fans.

i'm sure there are lots of hardcore fans who don't have much money and still want to go to a pumpkins concert. i'll work like crazy to go to an SP concert. but i don't think billy should go that far.

i was thinking maybe billy can have his fans buy tickets online but before they do, have them take an SP quiz or something to show that they're a big enough fan to go to a show where rarities will be played. haha. i don't know. it's just a thought.

    Now that's a unique idea.

Raising ticket prices? What about us poor starving students?

Yeah, it's pretty harsh. SP gigs were never the cheapest in the first place. Sounds more like a money-grabbing scheme than anything else, but whatever.

Billy didn't look too enthused about the idea of raising ticket prices, but what other options are there? I mean, the "true" fans who want to go and experience a show that offers more than just the "classics" hopefully wouldn't mind, and it is designed to weed out those who would go just for "Today", like Billy said. I understand though, it would be a lot of money, but I wouldn't mind going to see. I would see it in the same light as going to see, say, Pink Floyd, or Zeppelin, which would be pretty damned expensive too. (But of course, nobody ever complains about them selling out) ; )

Well the tickets for The Fillmore shows were only $25 but of course there's all the service fees and such which add up.

    Plus parking, gas and etc.

nice. at least with a quiz it would get rid most of the people that don't really care.

I don't think they will go this route, but it's basic concepts of economics, supply and demand....charge what the market is willing to pay. And unfortunately the fans will pay ANYTHING. I emptied my savings to spend a week in Asheville. Although tickets were only $20, you've got to think about plane tickets, hotels, food, spending money, etc...it was quite expensive.

They've experimented with exclusive shows and different ticket schemes in the past (1996 and the residencies), which I think could work fine with a few tweaks. They imited sales to two tickets per person and the buyer had to show a valid id and credit card used to purchase the tickets at the door.

To tweak that idea, maybe you have to show up at a predetermined time before the show to get the tickets and a place in line. I also like the idea of a paid fan club membership where exclusive tickets would be sold. Or don't advertise the show at all, and don't use ticketmaster to sell the tickets. The internet fan base is arguably the most hardcore fans, not much news gets buy us. If the Pumpkins were playing a show, we all would know about it. They should use this to their advantage and allow the major forums first crack at all the tickets.
