TOPIC: NOW WHAT?

Re:NOW WHAT? 4 years 6 months ago #58835

i really dont hear much similarity between silverfuck and united states/superchrist other than the length. at least to me, silverfuck is much more psychedelic and whacked out (for lack of a better term), and US and superchrist are leaning more towards the heavy, down to earth, and droning kind of stuff.

and i agree with robertedge... those riffs are fucking GORGEOUS.

I think we all have had a song "superchrist or other" that did not thrill us when we first heard it. That is the beauty of the pumpkins - they have such a large catalog of music that 2 years down the road when you hear the latest project and they throw in that song that you really could care less about you revisist the song and really appreciate what they did then and find yourself completely entrawed in the song for weeks. Basically wishing you gave it a better chance when it came out.
I mean come on, how many sp tunes do you really think are garbage?? Not many IMO.

I remember argueing with a friend which was better dusk to dawn or twilight to starlight, I chose dusk to dawn back then, but now I spin twilight to starlight more.

I think Billy is very confused right now at the response he got from this past tour and once he has some time off, his mind wil work overtime - music and lyrics will flow, bringing us many songs.
I do not see this single song release thing working out as he would think.

I think ep's are a better possibilty.

I agree with the opinion that its Billy's own fault that Zeitgeist didnt do well commercially, he left out the best songs and put in some boring rockers like Doomsday Clock. That should have been left to the Transformers soundtrack I think.

Well to me, the climax of dullness is C'mon let's go...Replaced by Death from above would have made the album so much more better...

You're right. Thats quite boring too. Death From Above should have been on there.

Also, I dont know what Billy was thinking when he left Ma Belle and Stellar off! Their is no comparison between them and Doomsday Clock when it comes to quality!

"Zeitgeist" would have fit well on the album as well.

Though I agree that Billy backtracks a lot on what he says and what he means, I'd advise you all to read his most recent blog at SP.com where he clarifies the "pop song" quote. Pretty insightful.

The only good songs on Zeitgeist were the bonus tracks and Tarantula. With Pomp & Circumstance being the only other decent one. United States is good live, but in-studio it is boring and droning. I'll take Silverfuck, TAFH or GATGC over that any day of the week. No question.

I'ma go make an ultimate Zeitgeist now. Maybe then I'll enjoy it.

Now as for Billy's latest antics, whatever. I've heard the new songs. They kick ass. Even if those particular songs aren't recorded and released (they better!!), I still have faith that Billy will give us something nice. As long as he gets his old vocals back like he did on ARB, its all good.

When are they doing the small clubs thing? They need to hop on that, and come to Texas =P
I love small club shows.
It was so great seeing them at the Fillmore

I hope they do hop on the small club scene..That would be so much better for the new SP...
As for the no more albums..it sucks, but as long as there is accessible music from them I am completely happy. Shouldn't be about the materialistic item itself, but the music that was created. Although I love having an actual copy!
And mu itunes Zeitgeist came with Death From Above.
Now remember it was a label release cd and Billy really didn't want to be on a label, so to me, why on earth would he want to put out all his goodies under that label?

I thought the itunes version of zeitgeist came with stellar, the best buy version came with death from above?

I bought the target version for "zeitgeist" and itunes for "stellar". Those 2 were the ones to buy.

Just a thought on the idea of people changing their minds.

We all do it, it's just that 99.9% of us don't have to do it in public. I'd think that in 41 years any person who truly thinks about things and is open to new thoughts and ideas is going to change their mind...a lot.

To me the crazy thing is sticking to the same thoughts and beliefs that I had in the past if they don't fit me and what I'm doing at the moment. If we all did that the world would still be flat and the sun would be revolving around us.

Just glad with the way things are now and looking forward to what is to come!

Re:NOW WHAT? 4 years 6 months ago #58976

Well, I think we're getting off topic. We haven't the slightest clue as to what they're doing now. Probably take a break because of the touring and something will show up. I think he will do a new album, despite what he says, because his head is always full of music composing ideas and what not. I thought I heard him once say or reading a quote that he said if the possibility for another album was going to arise after Zeigeist, then it's be like a dreamy, stellar like album. Again, I have no clue, and neither does anyone else. Just wait and see what happens.

I do think there is an outside chance that they could actually record an actual album sometime in the future. But I think that it will depend on the songs that Billy ends up writing. Once he creates this next batch of songs, he may decide that it could work as an album. If he feels that the material could actually do well in stores, that might happen.
But hearing most of their new stuff (March Hare, As Rome Burns, Sound of Silence remake), I don't think it will happen.

i was going to say, none of the new songs sound to similar... which is great but it's depressing no more new albums...

I think we're forgetting how diverse Mellon Collie was. Bit of a stretch, but show a non-fan Zero or X.Y.U, then Thru The Eyes of Ruby or Tonight Tonight and see if they think they are from the same album, let alone artist. No two songs were the same nor very similar at all on MCIS, but the point is it flowed well. It came together to tell a story.

I think any of the new songs could work, except maybe Communion. That is bad. Just...bad...

Still, I don't expect a new album anytime soon. Least not yet.
