I think they'll make an albume because a true fan would buy it. And about releasing single, who buys an mp3? While one person does it, other 100 download the song for free.

C'mon, EVERY Pumpkinsfan all over the world is excited about a new album...and Billy won't let us down, for what did he reunite the Pumpkins if not for the art of music?

I agree with everything that has been said here. Even the stuff I don't agree with.

I own an i-pod by myself, but it's just an "emergency solution" (to carry all my music at once)...those crappy acc-files could never ever mess with the quality of an original album + we have artwork in its booklet and an album is something for our collections...what I would miss most in those blocks of songs / mini albums would be the "magic flow" that could catch you for about an hour (you know what I'm talking about, just listen to full MACHINA). I'd miss the concept behind it all...

It's good to see that there are so many people who are in support for albums. Surely Billy and Jimmy will take notice sooner or later. I find it ironic that he's catering to an internet-centric crowd, and yet just about everyone on SP forums is opposed to this idea.

What's kind of funny is that normally you couldn't consider the needs of JUST the people on the forums, normally you need to think about the people who don't use SP websites, let alone the internet. But in this case, that party doesn't have much influence at all, because any form of "download" is going to nullify that market.

I don't understand why everyone's getting so heated about it:

Billy's quote doesn't make that much sense...an album is a complete work at once and not just some puzzle pieces you have to grab together...releasing an album partial will bring some strange fanmade tracklist mixtures but no proper CD at all within a concept.

All concept albums, in that the collection of songs were written to a single concept (or general feeling) but then split in two for marketing reasons.

This new album will be split up even further (also for marketing reasons) and then at the end we'll get a big box-set thing I expect.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but I would totally agree with those statements, about it bringing broken down even more.

But you always have to take out some songs when making an album, and it's good to know that Pumpkins always cared about their fans and released everything in one or another way...

I think it's interesting to compile our own album after the songs are released ever soooo slowly, but at the same time it's always better to have Billy and Jimmy do the album and let us wonder and discuss in amazement. This time last year we had 4 songs (AG EP) and now, we only have 1 song this year so far and a few newbies from the 20th anniversary. But do those songs count towards their album over time? Or does Billy and Jimmy have something else up their sleeves for the drawn out album?

And I hope it's not a case of releasing EPs, then releasing an album or boxset which contains all the songs from the EPs. I'm a big fan of The Smashing Pumpkins, but I don't want to buy their stuff twice.

yeah, i don't really want to pay for stuff twice either, but i probably would to have a physical copy.
