Not to raise this thread from the dead, but..

I went back and listened to all of Teargarden. I still feel like TomTom, Owata, Lightning Strikes, Freak, The Fellowship are all great songs. Even now, up against Oceania, they are still awesome.

Lightning Strikes is superb.

Lightning Strikes is my favourite too. And I generally like most of the later songs, but I do still feel there's something missing in those that thankfully is back in most of the Oceania songs.

Yes, Lightning Strikes is a beast, and I also love the hell outta Tom Tom.

Going back and listening to some of these original Teargarden songs, it's really hard to compare them to Oceania. Good songs are good songs, but like many people it's very hard to believe that Oceania is a part of Teargarden. They sound nothing alike in reality, throughout Zeitgeist to the end of Teargarden you can sort of hear Billy start to get back into his element after taking back the Pumpkins banner, but it's in Oceania that that idea is finally realized. Which makes it very hard to compare the two. Now the only question is, "Will Billy continue this ideology of one massive linked album or has he moved on?".

As for the songs themselves I must say I still think A Song For A Son is one of the best songs Billy has done since the reunion. I'm just imagining how the song would be with Billy's current vocals and Oceania's production. That would be amazing :eek

Owata, Lightning Strikes, and Tom Tom are all songs I still think measure up very well. The rest is alright or just simply awful (Astral Planes I'm looking at you).

I rate The Fellowship as a close second behind ASFAS.

I think most of the album's songs were intended for TBK but as soon as Billy saw the potential he felt that they were too good to be wasted in TBK one-file-per-century-downloads and rather should get a proper release.
I say it's 50:50 that TBK will end in favour for another proper record since Oceania performs so well for everyone.

Astral Planes gets too much hate. I still think it's a great live opener.

If it was a 1:30 minutes intro like Glass, everyone would love it.
This way it'sjust shallow and overdone.

I don't think it is that good live. I wasn't impressed. SfaS really impressed me live though, actually made me really like the studio version a lot.

I guess I can agree with you there, it is definitely a little overdone. It would be more effective if it had Glass' running time.

2 minutes and no vocals and it'd actually be a pretty kick ass intro.

I wonder if BC is gonna jump quickly back into releasing TGbK songs once a month or if he's gonna do another album within an album?

we'll see soon (or not). there was that idea of a double, if that happens, Teargarden could be complete with the next release. but there is the case of Lightning Strikes and Owata not having a physical release. what makes sense to me would be to either release the next two songs in the "traditional" Teargarden fashion and release EP 3, or consolidate the first two EP's, Lightning and Owata, onto one album, maybe with another two new songs. then the double album to finish it.

With any luck we'll get The Residency Songs and The 20th Anniversary Tour Songs released as the next three or four Teargarden EPs.

It would be a dream come true to be able to listen to a studio version of The Question Mark, Gossamer, If Only In A Dream, As Rome Burns, I'm Doing The Best I Can, and The March Hare.
I don't mean to hurt anyone, I'm just speaking my personal opinion.

Each to his own but I'd prefer new and better songs in the vein of Oceania to be released.

Yeah, follow Oceania with a double album of this quality... maybe with some heavier/rawer songs thrown in to give more diversity... Yeah, I don't ask for much ;)

Oh, I wouldn't mind As Rome Burns and The March Hare being re-worked for that double album though, they're my two favourite unreleased SP songs from the last few years.

They could re-record SFAS as well, as that really doesn't live up to its potential in its current studio state.

I hear you, sir.
The edges are clearly missing in Oceania and should be brought back...that said, I like Oceania the way it is.
