He said once a month, so I wouldn't count on getting another one till early January. What date did Song For A Son come out? I forget.

Pretty sure it was last monday, 12/14, wasn't it?

January it is then. I'm somewhat hoping that we'll get a little Christmas surprise, but that's just wishful thinking on my part.

In reality he could release them whenever he wants, I'm sure. Maybe he'll release one for Christmas? If that was the case, I imagine we would have to wait longer for the third song, though. I wouldn't mind! It would be a nice little Christmas gift.

I think he should do a new Xmas song. 'Christmastime' was great!

Christmas is lame. I refuse to celebrate a Christian hijacked pagan solstice festival.

People buy me presents. I like it. That's what Xmas is all about.

You do raise an interesting point though. If Billy did a Xmas song now it would probably be a pile of religious vomit about that baby and all that bible nonsense.

Billy is not more or less religious now than he ever has been, I don't know where people got this idea from, they mustn't have been paying much attention 15/20 years ago.

Agreed! Has no one heard "Jesus Loves His Babies," "Jesus Is the Sun," "If There is a God," "MACHINA/The Machines of God," etc.

He's always talked about God and that kind of thing. Besides, just because he talks about God and/or Jesus, it doesn't mean he's religious. He's not following any specific religion, and he's quite clearly said that his "relationship" with "God" is a "personal one..."

It's like, I'm not religious, and I don't really believe in a God, but I believe that Jesus was a person, AND I agree with his teachings. It doesn't make me religious though.

Anyway...

I never took him to be religious until his mum died and he started hanging out with that therapist. Course, I've never paid too much attention to what he gets up to outside of music.

I always thought "Jesus Loves His Babies" was sarcastic, taking the piss.
And lines like "God is empty" made me think he either wasn't religious or at least wasn't happy with the religion or spiritual path he was following.

So, yeah, maybe he did always spout religious stuff and I just didn't know because I didn't read so much about him in the 90s.

I'd say he does follow a specific religion if he believes in Jesus as anything more than a revolutionary though - or at least shares some beliefs with a major organised religion.

I should probably just point out - whatever Billy or anyone else wants to believe is fine, whether they're right or not - thought I should say that before any arguments start ;-)

Totally, I feel the same way, whatever anyone wants to believe is fine with me.

I think there is a difference in an artist like Billy Corgan believing in something spiritual, as compared to all of those Christian "rockers" who make rock songs about Jesus... I think the intention is different. I mean, Smashing Pumpkins certainly isn't a Christian rock band, so it never bothers me if he mentions God and such.

i agree. i think Billy has his own individualized brand of spirituality that doesn't really fit into any category per say. i think there are some Christian elements there, but its not quite the same if he was some traditional religious type. and i'm glad for that because i don't like my music with a dose of Christian rhetoric although i would be lying if i said i was into Billy's current hippy trippy happy go lucky Jesus kick. its more of a mood thing though then a his Jesus references piss me off thing. i ljust like the fuck you/ World is a vampire/ moody, stormy Billy best. his 90's stuff just had more of a kick to it. Zwan is were it started going downhill for me.

as for Christmas- i'm in it for the presents and the candy. ;)

The relationship of Billy and god was not always the best, but god was always was a part of Billy's poetry!

Personally, I like Zwan very much. New direction, but still Jimmy and Billy. ;)

It would take awhile to sort out all the pages in this thread, so I will just post my thoughts here. I think that "A Song For A Son" was a great song for Billy to post first. He knew that many of us already loved the song. And I think the current arrangement of the song gives hope for the rest of the release.

I have to admit, I have been out of the SP loop, so I haven't heard much of the newer live stuff Billy has played with non-SP members and all that. But it would be great if say a song like "Owata" ended up on there.

it's alright. i haven't heard any of it either thanks to mountains of homework. ^^

Re:Teargarden by Kaleidyscope 3 years 5 months ago #64661

I'm really hoping for The March Hare to be included on the new album - that was great. As Rome Burns would be a nice heavier song to include too.

Owata was alright, I'm not so desperate for that to be on the album... but it could end up amazing once it's recorded in the studio, so I wouldn't be too disappointed if I heard they were going to do that one.

Re:Teargarden by Kaleidyscope 3 years 5 months ago #64662

i wasn't too big on Owata. it didn't do much for me when i first heard it, but yeah, who knows. it could be better recorded proper. i would like to see As Rome Burns though. i like that one.
