Cmon Lets Go has a pretty good riff and chorus...

Oh and Ryon/Superchrist i'm in your boat now, spent all DAY listening to zeitgeist, like, really LISTENING to it, and my opinion has dramatically changed from Shitegeist to "this is actually pretty good." Guess I just had to be in the proper mood. Turning it down also helped a lot, when Billy wasn't pummeling my ears mercilessly with his voice it became 1000% more listenable. Not having massive dense riffs fill my head was a downside but still, the songs themselves are good. It was a rediscovery :D

My only complaint with Zeitgeist is Billy's voice.

What happened to Billy's voice? I mean, I know he's getting older but it got less emotive over the years, even when it isn't jacked up to the front of the mix.

He is intentionally making it bad... (Only he doesn't seem to realize it) He's still got the same singing voice he had 15 years ago, he's just decided to change it, I guess, as another way to sever ties with the old incarnation of the band. Listen:

The emotion is still there. He's taken the whiny edge off for SP2, he doesn't break and strain at the high notes, it's more controlled. Too controlled in my opinion, to the point where it does sound artificial. But once again, he won't go close to that old voice because its too related to SP1 and he doesn't want go there.

I think you are probably right. I just don't get that train of of thought though. I think Billy's SP1 voice comes out a lot more in live performances.

Yeah, when he gets into it he does sing like he did in Sp1. I meant more in recordings, that's one of the things that made Zeitgeist sound so different to me. He also sung more or less the same way with Zwan, but it worked more imo.

I knew you were talking about recordings. I was just saying haha. I definitely worked with Zwan.

Yes, Starz is a masterpiece. It really rocks.

I like all the other songs on Zeitgeist (though I think Death From Above should've been about half the length).
I'm going to guess the one you don't like is Come On, Let's Go or possibly Bring The Light - although neither of them remind me of White Spyder.

Yes the correct answer is Come On (Let's Go). You almost know that song is going to be full of it's self just from the title.
He had a couple of bad titles on the Zwan album too. Baby Let's Rock (?) Yeah! (?) But they're actually okay to listen to.
Yeah! even makes me laugh.

But maybe C'mon Let's Go is the bunch's biggest stinker...but then again, personally I see no need to factor Shitgeist in Bolly's discography.

Seriously.

United States live is pretty good, but it was only awesome because Jimmy is a beast on the drums, it was amazing to see him go at it like that.
Now...meh. :zzz

It really isn't a bad album. Could it have been better by replacing some of the songs with the b-sides? Yes, but I think Billy just wanted to make a rock album. If you think about it, the album never really slows down, it's like a fucking gut-punch the whole way through, which is awesome if you're in the mood for that. It's fun to listen to, just like Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. Every Smashing Pumpkins album has been different from the last, and Zeitgeist is no different. I think it will become more appealing to fans through time, much like Adore.

What he should have done was drop That's the Way and replace it with Death From Above and release that as the first single.

I don't know about that, I like "That's the Way (My Love Is)". I would replace "Bleeding the Orchid", even though it's a great song, with "Ma Belle". Also, "Pomp and Circumstances" should have been replaced with "Zeitgeist".

I happen to like Pomp and Circumstances. I probably give it a 9/10

This is my ideal Zeitgeist album:
01. Tarantula
02. FOL
03. Ma Belle
04. That's the Way (My Love Is)
05. 7 Shades of Black
06. Starz
07. United States
08. Death from Above
09. Neverlost
10. Stellar
11. Bring the Light
12. Zeitgeist

*There is nothing wrong with how the actual album is, though! :sillyhat

And you didn't even put Superchrist on there. The irony

Nah, I see that as a residency song. Plus I think having that on an album along with "United States" is just too much anyway. By the way, I like "Pomp and Circumstances" too. I was actually at the concert where they played it live for the first time. Good stuff!

Superchrist was intially recorded for Zeitgeist, same as Gossamer. To be honest I see Peace + Love and No Surrender as Residency songs. Superchrist became a live staple.
I don't think F.O.L had anything to do with Zeitgeist (could be wrong..?)

From what I understand, Billy had the main riff to "Superchrist" written during the time of recording, but a demo was never actually made. Also, the song wasn't finalized and debuted until the band was doing the residency at the Fillmore, which is why I consider it to be a residency song. "FOL", on the other hand, was written and recorded during the Zeitgeist sessions. If you look on the infamous whiteboard, you will see "FOL" written on there. :billy

Can you please post the Zeit Whiteboard or a link to it? I haven't seen it
