White Spyder is a great song. The problem is no one has ever heard a version from the master tapes. Remastered I suspect it would sound similar to Tales of a Scorched Earth in texture. I mean imagine only hearing The White Album on cds ripped from the vinyl!

Are you implying that Machina is SP's White Album? Well I supposed it could be in the sense that White Album had quite a few weak songs and was weak as a whole, kinda like Machina. In terms of variety though, MCIS is their White Album. :)

I know what you were trying to say though. Imagine any great album you know and love, then imagine what it would sound like as a crappy vinyl rip. Hopefully, Machina will be reborn not only as a great album, but as a great double album.

Sounds interesting. If you find a link, post it.

This is what the SP re-issues should be like.

Eh. I've heard all of those songs, I don't really care for new live versions.

I mainly meant in terms of expansiveness and the general layout (b-sides, live CD, live DVD, etc.).

With that Nirvana one - I'm slightly tempted to buy the deluxe version just for the cool packaging... but at the end of the day I feel like that's the last thing Kurt would've wanted, so I won't. Also, I'm cheap.

In terms of the actual music included, most of it (the b-sides and demos etc) would already have been included in With The Lights Out. So the only part of interest would be the "Devonshire Mixes", but who knows if they'd actually be worth hearing.

Same here, which is why I probably won't buy this. I could buy a lot of new music instead. :)

Think I'll stick to the original Nevermind I own, though I could change my mind.

You don't strike me as cheap, buying all those cds all the time. I wouldn't buy anything just because it has cool packaging though.

Wasn't The Solstice Bare only $20?

Oh well, I just felt like insulting myself :)

I wouldn't buy anything just because of the packaging. Like, Coldplay could put an album out in an oak box with gold plated detailing and I'd still rather pour molten lava in my ears than buy it. But if something I really want comes out and there's a version with special packaging I'd be very tempted to get that version - like the Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree stuff :)
