please nooo!.... billy has always been one step forward (or aside) the tendency, why would they go backwards to emo

this leads me to some random thought i had the other day... is this emo thing the movement that will represent this decade musically ...i mean, like grunge to the 90's? :confused

well, it depends on what exactly you are thinking about when you say "emo." If you go by the full word "emotional," then i would say *prepares for flaming...* that a few of billy's songs have been on the emo side. I mean, look at Soma for example. The whole "i'm all by myself, as i've always felt" line is pretty emotional. Although, in his defense its hard to write a song that doesn't have any emotion in it and doesn't come from the heart. I can think of a few exmples though (RIVERS! :mad)

However, if you say emo is like Fall Out Boy and Panic! and Hawthorne heights, then i doubt they will go for a song style like that and that most bands seem to follow these days which is just annoying singing for the verse and then screaming during the chorus with no guitar solos. I have to put my full trust in billy that he will write good songs from the soul and hat the pumpkins will have their own genuine sound that he has seemed to find throughout all of his projects.

I guess bottom line is, clarify what kind of sound/music you are talking about when you say "emo."

music you just sit around and listen to, and be apathetic and sad to...

my god people. Lay off the I hate emo bullshit. There are plenty of great bands that are under the emo genre. Just because you hate Fallout Boy doesn't mean you hate Emo. That's like saying Hard Rock sucks because you hate creed. The emo you hear on the radio is watered down bullshit.

Lots of SP songs could be classified as Emo. So suck it.

My favorite Emo artist would probably be Sunny Day Real Estate. If you don't have a problem with them then you maybe you should rethink your blind hate towards Emo.

Yes, i think Emo is just a next logical step in the development of the musik that was played in the 90's

I really don't understand how the term "emo" came to be used for bands like Fall Out Boy. Any type of music is emotional; it all involves feelings. It doesn't always have to refer to whiny, angsty pop-punk. It sounds obvious, but the public/media misuse "emo" so badly.

IMHO, SDRE's emo is different from nowadays emo.

for the record, emo doesn't mean emotional, and all of the bands people call "emo" aren't even emo at all. The real emo genre is a bit older and sounds completely different (but it still sucks pretty hard). But when all these new bands started popping up and there wasn't a name for the genre, some moron journalist called them emo cause he thought it meant "emotional" and didn't know what he was talking about. So what does this mean?! These newer bands still don't have a name for their genre! Any ideas?

and by the way, one thing i hate about the misconception of the meaning of "emo" is that ALL music is emotional. Emo is just whinier and wussier

IMO!!!!!

emo is a look, not a sound, bands are called emo because of the way they select their image, it just so happens that most bands who have that image also have similar music, so now any new bands who want to be emo copy the look and sound of other emo bands, which brings down emos even more. emo (which, for the record, doesn't even deserve a capital letter) sucks, I don't care whether the term is over used or not, any band that looks or sounds emo to me is emo, same as any band that is good for me, is good, it's whatever you think, and whatever you want to call the band, labels are stupid.

Exactly, well said.

You know what I hate, so many people confuse goth with emo, which is sad, because I'm kind of semi-goth , but definately not emo

The point about goth and emo getting confused is good.
I'd also like to point out the confusion of goth with metal (they're so different, when are people gonna get it right?!)

However, I'd argue that emo is a sound, not a look.
The emo look is just a piecemeal of goth, punk, and "indie" sort of influences.
The sound's a cruddy form of pop-punk.

emo, is just a word, misused in every way, an extra label, and i think it only came about because of people, and not of music, just the music some people listened to while being "emo" which is usually all sorts of kind, you know the emo look kiddies got these days, i think thats the only reason "emo" came to existence

*refer to my sig* haha
