im surprised theres not already one of these, but since the band im in just recorded our first song i thought id like to share.

its in a horrible recording set up, the drummer was a bit drunk, and we all made a few mistakes, but it sounds pretty good i think, FEEDBACK please!

Hey Teej212, big idea!
I like the recording a lot (and I haven't spotted the mistakes, yet ).
Maybe the edits could have been a bit less hearable, but it's alright, I don't mind that at all.
Sounds like late 90s-Billy, No-Man and The Cure are lurking 'round the corner, very atmosperic work!
I'm looking foreward to hear more from you, soon!

OK, something toally different from my Noise Rock/Post Rock duo "Youth Lost Asleep":
It's called "Obit" and it's the usual closer of our live-sets.
The leading guitar is played by my dear friend "Bauer Stück'n" and the reciting of the poem "Obit" was made by myself.
This is very dark, claustrophobic and experimental stuff, give it a try! The production is supposed to be this way!
I've written the poem on a night ride in a train when I felt really uncomfortable...it refers to Ian Curtis' suicide compared to the death of Christ and a picture of these day's world.

Don, man, that first one was scary! I think you are indeed experimental German! I definitely got some Sonic Youth vibes from the guitar riff, particularly from some of the openings to their darker early albums--and Kotton Krown!


Sadly I got no recordings to post, unless you want to see tapes of violin recitals when I was a wee tike. Damn, I gotta learn guitar

Thanks for your replies, yes, I really stopped writing "standard tunes" about two years ago and I completley fell in love with experiments

There's really no need for school in playing guitar:
I've had had lessons for about 8 years and I haven't learned a thing then in playing awfull Nirvana tunes and Metallica solos with my teacher.
Back that days I used to write and play Pumpkins copycat tunes which we're allright but nothing new and not what I wanted to express...it just happened because I loved Pumpkins so much and couldn't imagine better songwriting (I'll upload some of them if you dare to taste their cheeseyness ).
And then I skipped guitar-lessons whilest entering the underground hardcore/noise/emotive/post rock scene which is really famous in some citie's underground here in southern Germany and I founded "Youth Lost Asleep" with a friend of mine.

For creating something absolutley personal, you have to play the guitar in a completley personal way!
And currently I'm working on a recording called "a post post-modern prosthetic fairy-tale of bad fortune", it's a three EP project, they're called "I. Grey" / "II. Even Less" / "III. Suicide".
And today I've recorded the second track for EP I called "Listening to Porcupine Tree via cellphone".
If I just had the fulltime to concentrate on making music

Holy nuts Don, that's awesome. I feel so inspired to finish an EP now that I've read that paragraph.

I recorded a really rough version of a song I wrote called "Winter's Delusions". I posted it but it was skipping for some reason. Maybe I will post it and a few better songs later.

Wow, musically I think it has a great sound. You all sound pretty tight in terms of performing with one another.

Just look at all those metal-wannabes copying the same riffs and solos over and over again...
Even Billy has his own way to play the guitar which is a good way, because he does NOT act like a guitar god but just play the instrument for good.

Don, I think what he means (or atleast what I think) is that you don't have to be all super experimental to have your music be personal, which I agree with. Lessons are a great way for people to start. A lot of times it's better to learn the proper way to play atleast rather than developing bad habits that till inhibit you later on.

I like the song but the intro needs to be changed. It sounds too much like Substitution. Is this Flying Kards or some new band you guys are in?

This is Flying Kards. These demos will probably be going up on the myspace soon to replace some of the older ones.

I appreciate the feedback, but I don't think we're going to change the intro just because another band released a song (after ours was written to boot!) with a similar intro. Personally, the two feel totally different. It's just a rhythm thing, and it's only for the first few seconds of the song.

i dont think you should change it! just thought it sounded similar!

and bob- it goes Zoom H2 Sitting on a card table with the bass amp on the left side of it and the guitar amp in front, then the drums about ten feet away- trust me you dont want to go about modeling any mic set ups after that!

im getting a mixer from best buy and getting some mics, weve got a ton of ideas we want to record and once we get those songs down ill be able to get some words into it. ive got a weird writing process- i cant get lyrics written until the instruments are down
