They sound completely different, but I think that riff is one of the first things you think of when you think of Substitution. It's almost more important than the chorus. I really honestly love the song, but the intro bothers me for that reason...

OK here's the (almost) finished version of "Listening to Porcupine Tree via cellphone in public while despising all the crowds"
It's from my solo EP project "A post post-modern prosthetic fairy-tale of bad fortune" as I mentioned before, it's "EP1: Grey" Track#2...
It's kinda these days Porcupine Tree parody/hommage about Steven Wilson's thoughts on MP3- and cellphone music and the way music gets fucked up by low quality playing in general.
It's supposed to have this cellphone quality in the guitar...just write your thoughts...the synth isn't mixed properly, yet!
Note: This whole project is consciously based on spontanous and half-way improvised pieces!

Just given all the stuff shared in here a listen

Don - that's some pretty unique stuff you have going on there - "Listening to Porcupine Tree..." is great... Steven Wilson would have an aneurysm if he heard something intentionally made to sound like it was played on a cellphone

Rivers - What can I say? Great band you have there, all the music was very well played, the songs were catchy and I love the distortion over it. Coming Down was my favourite.

Teej - Good stuff - reminded me a bit of 65 Days of Static (not that I've listened to them much). Really atmospheric sound.

Ryon - Very good, had a bit of a country feel to it, I thought. I agree the vocals should be pushed back a bit, but other than that I liked it.

I'm really impressed - got some great talent on here!

Now it's time for me to drag the standard right down!

Here's a track from an intended 5 track EP. Quite different to everything else posted in here... it's supposed to be an electro/industrial kind of thing, in the same vein as Combichrist etc... not sure it will be to everyone's taste.

I have the other 4 tracks for the EP planned out, a few started. A couple are going to have proper vocals and lyrics involved in them, which I'm looking forward to working on.

It's good that it made you want to dance - I suppose it is really an industrial dance kind of sound. I should say that when I said in the same vein as Combichrist, I mean early Combichrist (i.e. from their album The Joy of Gunz), just in case anyone points out that it doesn't sound much like more recent Combichrist stuff.

It's called Exquisite, which I didn't say before. And the EP is going to be called "Death is Coming..." and is planned as a prelude to a full album (probably double album) simply called "Death"

Yeah, I agree, that was pretty cool.

I'm listening to it by an open window, and the first two times I heard that creepy laugh I thought it was some weirdo across the street or something.

So I've been working on my guitar soloing every day this past week, and listening to a lot of Hendrix, etc. I'm really trying to get inside his head!

Anyway, I actually wrote this song on drums. It's a psychedelic jam for me to test out my soloing skills, so its a bit repetitive, but I thought you guys would dig it. It's three layers of instruments all played by myself. The main guitar solo is all improv, but I think I pulled it off.

I'd love to hear what you guys think!
