4. On the Sunday Of Life

9/10 this one is very beautiful (looking foreward to the proper songs anyway, let's bundle those intros).

Third Eye Surfer - 5/10

It's an ok bit of music.

On the Sunday of Life - 7/10

I like this one, but still nothing amazing.

5. The Nostalgia Factory

Love the soundscape in this song. There's a lot going on. When I first heard it I was very surprised because I thought the album was supposed to be not great, and here's this thing. Possibly my second favorite track on there.

8/10
One of Wilson's early milestones, I like the atmosphere.

The Nostalgia Factory - 8/10

One of the few really good tracks on this so-called album.

6. Space Transmission

It's an interesting idea. But I don't need to listen to this more than say, once.

6. Space Transmission

Yet another needless little filler.

6. Space Transmission

8/10

I like the idea and the little story told.
Of course it is cheesy and clichéed but c'mon, SW maybe was 17 when he did this :D

Space Transmission - 2/10

Being 17 is really no excuse :p I don't take an artist's age into account when listening to what they've made. This is pretty pointless. I don't see why they put stuff like this on the "main album" and left off much better stuff to be released on the limited album Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscapes (I could raise this point several times whilst reviewing this album, but I'll try not to ;))

7. Message from a Self-Destructing Turnip

This didn't need it's own track (or title).

Message from a Self-Destructing Turnip - 2/10

Totally pointless and annoying. It could easily have just been stuck on the end of Space Transmission, I suppose. The only reason I'm giving it two points rather than just one though is because of the title :)

7. Message from a Self-Destructing Turnip

It's actually already used in the noise-bubble at the end of Jupiter Island (listen close!) so there's no need for it being an own track.
At least it doesn't destroy anything.

2/10

EDIT:
Franky, we should really do Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape next since it features the rest of those SW home demos.
Of course it was released in 1994 after Voyage and Downstair but the songs come from the same tapes as those of Sunday do.

lol. These low scores at the start don't matter very much since I'm sure very soon in upcoming albums I'll be giving some 10/10's.

I guess Yellow H is up next then, if there's nothing from later eras on it. (Hmmm.. I better start listening to that then ;) )

8. Radioactive Toy

I don't think there's anything else on this album that would have really suggested this was possible. This song is an instant and absolute classic from start to finish. It's a song that definitely doesn't feel like it belongs in the 90s, like it was one of Floyd or Zepplin's gems that was never recorded. A true achievement, and should rate fairly high on most PT fan's favorite PT songs all the way to 2012 (at least for this bad boy PT fan :james )

Re: Discography Reviews: Porcupine Tree 1 year 5 months ago #107323

Radioactive Toy - 10/10

Couldn't decide between a 9 or a 10 really, but I don't like giving halves. There are better PT songs, but this is really good.

And yeah, makes sense to do Yellow H next - that is made up of songs from the same EPs as the songs that ended up on Sunday... you'll be surprised at what they didn't put on Sunday (especially considering a lot of the shit they did put on there :p)
