In Absentia

1. Blackest Eyes

This is a good song on many levels, but there's something about it that I can get easily sick of.

Blackest Eyes

Yes, this beautiful hardrock/britpop hybrid is the best way for opening up a PT album.
A classic.
Love the erotic innuendos in the lyrics.

2. Trains

Now this is something special. Perfect blend of light and heavy, with addictive riff.

Trains

I listened to this on a train once. True story. *sigh*

By the way, we forgot to do those Stars Die songs.

Trains

Trains always sounded to me like a Stupid Dream outtake, a b-side or something. I could never find any of the magic in it many seem to notice.
It's a nice, easy listen but far below PT standards. I could have lived withouth it but at least it is not bad.

Yes, we should do the Stars Die songs and the In Absentia Bonus EP after the album.

Re: Discography Reviews: Porcupine Tree 1 year 2 days ago #112836

And I guess we should do the few worthwhile songs off Futile too.

Lips of Ashes

Beautiful but seems unfinished to me.

Lips of Ashes

A beautiful piece indeed. Captivatingly mournful.

4. The Sound of Muzak

This seems quite radio friendly.

The Sound of Muzak

Well...big lyrics in a lame popsong which sounds very forced and rushed to me.
Again, this could have been a b-side.

5. Gravity Eyelids

Not bad, but it's usually a better affair with non instrumental PT at 7 minutes plus.

I always figured the pop song sound of it was an ironic nod at what the lyrics are about.

Gravity Eyelids

I love this one. Surprised you didn't like it more, Frank, especially with that great heavy section in it.

At least the nerd in you wants it to be that way :D

Gravity Eyelids

A big gothic rocker with hot and dirty lyrics.
I like it a lot.
Don't ever listen to it when it's freezing cold outside and the heating of your car is broken.

6. Wedding Nails

Bit bland for PT. I don't know the story behind Drown With Me and Chloroform missing out, but here's what should have been dropped in exchange.

Wedding Nails

Not sure I would call this bland, but it can seem a little odd when listened to away from the album. I really like how it sits on the album though. The title track from The Incident reminds me a bit of this.
