Music Taste Championships 3 - Round 1, Match 5 6 years 6 months ago #111985

For those new to the game, we have to do matches on occasion with 3 options (because we have an odd number of people playing.) The top 2 vote getters survive, and the lowest one moves to the losers' bracket.

Fever Ray- Stranger Than Kindness

Poets Of The Fall - Fire

A Perfect Circle - 3 Libras

Fever ray was just kind of a blah techno-ish song to me. Had some interesting rhythms at points, but it lost my interest. Poets of the fall was kinda cool, but it sounds almost exactly like Dishwalla. Not a terrible song, but I feel like that song has been done a hundred times over before by countless other bands. 3 Libras is where it's at for me. I totally love everything on Mer de Noms. Such a great album.

Out of ten

Stranger than kindness 6

Fire 5

3 Libras 10

Well, I know Perfect Circle like the back of my hand. And yeah, 3 Libras might even be my favorite song by them. So maybe it's just going to get my vote by default... Except for the fact that the other two songs offer no challenge.

I didn't mind Fever Ray, but they could have developed that song into something better. Gets to samey after a while.

Agree with Ghost Child about Poets. And I checked them out after GATGC kept advertisizing their presence, but alas just really average. You should have picked WTF Collective mate ;)

Not gonna reveal anything and be unfair to anybody but this poets of the fall song was not submitted by GATGC. ;)

I kept on waiting for Darth Vader to show up in the Fever Ray video. It would have been so much cooler if he did

The Fever Ray song had an interesting vibe. The Poets of the Fall song was okay. I was familiar with 3 Libras but that wasn't going to necessitate me choosing it. I used to listen to A Perfect Circle but I got sick of listening to Mer De Noms and haven't listened to it for years. Though I might go back and listen to again sometime. But I lost interest in them after I saw them live with James Iha in 2003. The new stuff hasn't held my attention.

Anyways, despite all that, I'm gonna go with A Perfect Circle's "3 Libras". Still my favorite of the bunch. I don't think I have ever seen that video before.

Darth Vader in any scene video = epic win! :D

Fever Ray was that sort of ghost train gothness music which makes me feel silly wearing black myself with all it's deepened voices and griefy grief.

The Poets Of The Fall song was 101-radiofriendly over-compressed rockism crap.

And then comes A Perfect Circle before James took part - their song actually has something to it. Not the best song ever written but decent enough to get my vote.

This was a tough round!

I'm a fan of Fever Ray and electronica in general but Fever Ray songs are definitely hit or miss. Stranger Than Kindness is pretty cool but doesn't quite get there. Though it gets points for originality.

I really liked the Poets of the Falls song. It's got a good chorus and the singer sounded a bit like Chris Cornell. Which is always a good thing.

I love A Perfect Circle, but I never liked 3 Libras very much (I know I'm probably the only one). It always struck me as a strangely lightweight and rather poppy song for them. Sort of the odd one out in the rest of their catalogue.

So my pick is Poets of the Falls – Fire.

With just 1 vote, Poets of the fall are the losers in this one.

The person who submitted the Poets of the Fall song didn't even vote for it!

The one who submitted it did not vote in this poll. Probably didn't log on quick enough to catch it.

Yeah, probably what happened. Even if he/she did vote, it still wouldn't have much mattered in terms of outcome.
