I REALLY hate Nirvana! Kurt was such a sell-out jerk who cared more about being remebered for offing himself then his own family.

I'm not going to pick on any rappers/pop groups/pop singers/country artists.. or anything like that cause it's just too easy and it's obvious we are all alternative rock fans so it's pointless.

The band that rubs me the worst was Simple Plan. There is not one redeeming quality about that band... the fact that the songs were so damn catchy made it so much worse because they got really popular. Lyrically and musically just the scum of the earth.

Some other bands that have been big over the years that I couldn't stand:

AC/DC
Slipknot
Most of the 80s hairbands. Poison and the like. 'I want action tonight, satisfaction tonight."
Kiss
Kid Rock

These bands offer almost nothing that I like about music and in the long run ruins rocks credibility. But hey just my opinion.

you gotta give AC/DC some cred, they were big...but I'm not huge on them because a lot of their songs sound exactly alike

Agreed, I can hear an AC/DC I've never heard before, and say instantly, that's AC/DC, without a moment's hesitation, good band but very overrated.

Yeah, the '80s were the worst time for popular music, but really good for underground goth, punk, and hardcore

I think that the worst moments in music come when people who have no history in music but have fame from other areas of entertainment decide to do an album.

Kelly Osbourne, Brook Hogan, Jennifer Lopez, Lindsay Lohan...etc.

well i knew there would be some rush fans out there. it's just not my style. And yes billy's voice is a little odd but at least you can tell what gender he is. One of the few rock stations around here plays a rush song every 10 minutes so they get rather annoying. But they only play their stuff from the 80's

And especially poeple like Kelly Osborne and Paris Hilton who don't have any other talents other than being born into a famous family.

I don't think he killed himself to be remembered. WHo knows why he did it but it's kinda going to far to presume to know why the man committed suicide.

People kill themselves for lots of reasons but it just doesn't make since that someone would kill themselves for fame when for one they are already super famous and two - what can u do with fame when you're dead?

Here's my theory on he fame thing:
When did Kurt die? In 1994, at the hieght of the grunge era.
When did Layne Staley die? In 2002 I think (I'd have to look the year up). See that right there goes to show that Kurt's death has stuck in my mind more, even though AIC is such a better band IMO. So who cared that Layne died? No one really.
Now what if Layne would have died around the same time Kurt did, after Dirt came out and during the peak of AIC's career, he might hvae been remembered more.
Now sadly, Nirvana's popularity far exceeds that of AIC. But I have thought about this idea a lot.
If Kurt would have died, say right now, would it have gotten the publicity it did 12 years ago? One could only hope not....

Nirvana's popularity had already exceeded AIC. Maybe you don't consider them a better band but they were already more popular.

River Pheonix died at the height of his career so did Jimi Hendrix and countless others but to say that they died to gain fame is just a little presumptuous. Heaven forbid if Jimmy Chamberlin had died from an overdose in that hotel room at the height of the pumpkins success would you be calling him an egotistical asshole who just wanted to be immortalized?

Well, there's a difference between OD and suicide, but nevermind that


I think some people will do stupid things for fame, that's pretty obvious..but I dont think anyone would kill themselves for it unless they were just plain old insane

I do understand that a lot of Kurt's death was media induced. I was just saying that if he would have died years later he may not have been remembered in the same way. I do realize that Nirvana was and is still more popular than AIC, I just thought that was a someehst comparable analogy. And yes there is a big difference between Overdosing and commiting suicide. But I guess if Kurt wouldn't have killed himself he would have died of an OD eventually.
With Kurt's suicide aside, I just don't like Nirvana as a band. I don't think their music is that good.
