I'm not really listening to it anymore, but that's the way it goes with any albums I get these days. I usually listen to them quite a bit for a few weeks, then file them away on the shelf. Otherwise I'd never have time to listen to all the new albums I keep getting...

My feelings/thoughts exactly. I can't listen to the same album for a crazily extended period of time or I'll be completely bored with it. With all the new music I get though, and the way I listen, I always have music to listen to and everything stays relatively fresh!

Don, do you still like the album a lot or has it fallen slightly out of favor for you?

@Blue: Ya gotta listen to it Blue! Possibly BC's best since Adore. :)

So...

Zwan - MSotS vs. SP - Oceania

Which do you guys think is the better album?

I just listened to a few selected tracks lately and they still felt OK, so maybe I should get on the entire album again...but then again I have the vision of the big popness in which I might drown while doing so ;) .
Yes, it seems like Oceania seems to suffer the SD overproduction syndrome for me after the early hysteria.
And don't get me wrong, I still appreciate Oceania for what it is, proudly wearing my Oceania shirt today - it was an important step for SP and definitly is no Zeitgeist (and even that was a necessary album because every band had it's Zeitgeist, no matter if you look at Porcupine Tree's The Incident, Sonic Youth's Goo or Kiss' Unmasked).

But I can honestly say that Oceania beats MSotS by a mile.
Mary Star hardly features any good songs and is the result of ZWAN recording their 14 worst tracks instead of such BC milestones like Friends & Lovers and Freedom Ain't What It Used To Be.

Yeah, I can sort of agree with the overproduction bit, although I think it often works in the albums favor. Do you prefer SD production to Oceania production Don?

@Epitome: Some have shown some serious love for the Zwan album on these forum, so yes, it's a somewhat serious question. ;)

On a different note, I've never figured out why people spend money in gift shops. All they have are useless knick-knacks that you don't need. I don't understand the concept of souvenirs unless you're going to someplace REALLY cool. (Like getting an SP shirt at a concert or something. ;) ) But yeah, I don't get gift shops and I don't get why people like overpriced souvenirs and knick-knacks.
If I'm going to Disney world, do I really need to spend and extra $25-$30 on a Donald Duck coffee cup? Aren't the hundreds of pictures people take enough of a souvenir?

Does anyone get it? If someone here understands tourist reasoning, explain it to me please. :_

UGH. I have a friend that everywhere she goes, she brings me back something stupid from there. A shot glass with a heart on the bottom that has the name of some obscure buttfuck town written on it. I know she was thinking of me, but seriously what am I going to do with this? It's not like it's something that says "I Heart NY" (even THAT is a waste) but it's literally "Buttfuck, Washington" with a dolphin on it.
Once I got a wine glass with a poem on it and it had hearts with wings on it. I shit you not.

Besides, is anyone ever going to use said Donald Duck coffee cop? How much you wanna bet it's going to sit at the back of the shelf for ten years until someone discovers it and then when they go to take it out, it slips and breaks.

You hella got your money's worth. :roll

^That's definitely true. Alot of people put those types of souvenirs on display and don't use them and if you have kids, the likelihood of anything in your house getting broke goes up by about 30% per kid. (Imagine how much stuff gets broken in a house with 4-5 kids, haha)

Another thing that pisses me off is people who go places and take pictures of EVERYTHING!! My mother and grandmother are big offenders of this. We went to Florida recently and I swear, they took pictures of every flower patch in the fucking parks! What a waste of valuable time and camera battery. When I'm operating rides I'll have parents bring their screaming kids (literally, parent will come in with kids balling their eyes out) in and they'll still want me to take a picture of them and their kid. Yep, I take it, and there's the parent sitting there smiling and there's the kid next to them that looks like they're dying. Great picture for the christmas cards. :roll

The other day I saw a 5-6 year old little boy with a Bob Dylan shirt. I told his Dad that he was the coolest kid in the park, haha!

Check this out guys, apparently some guy is literally spending $2 million to build a personal batcave with a theater, batsuit, secret passages, and the tumbler! Talk about a hardcore batman fan!

Heh heh, I love souvenir shops! But I like just browsing around at the cool stuff and I hardly ever buy stuff, much to the store owners' chagrin I suppose. My favorites are museum gift shops!

But I get pissed off too when people obsessively take pictures of every little thing. My dad does this, and he literally has thousands of photos from trips he's taken, and just the freaking garden and stuff, that nobody will ever seriously take the time and sit down and look at them because it's just too massive. I think a reason might be digital cameras and computer storage space, back in the day when everyone bought film and had actual paper photo albums, those pictures mattered!

I need to marry that man. I will own a Batcave one of these days. :eek

Oh geeze, can you say awkward family photos? I hate it when the parents don't do anything when the kid is screaming as if someone is murdering them. Either see what the fuck is wrong with your kid or get your kid in line. If I ever acted up that way as a kid I guarantee you my ass would be beat or I was in deep shit when I got home. My parents had a zero tolerance policy for that crap.

My uncle takes pictures of everything like that when he goes on trips. The ONE time we went to disneyland he was behind his video camera the whole time, when we went to the Haunted Mansion he put it in "night vision". It was so embarrassing.
He takes pictures of his kids everywhere they go, they're nine and five. Since they fight all the time he has to dress them in the same clothes or else they get jealous and scream at each other, this results in horribly embarrassing photos of the two of them. For example, my uncle put them in matching button down shirts, red bow-ties, short dress pants with suspenders then had them hold hands in front of a garden. I don't know if this is just a foreign thing (even though he lived in California for like...20 years and has his degree from here) but it was morbidly embarrassing and awkward.
50% of the pictures the kids are fighting, screaming, and pushing each other. He still feels the need to send us these. :dead

Damn that vids hilarious, and I hadn't seen it 8-)

To think I was watching Irate Gamer in 2010 thinking, how wicked it was someone was parodying NES.

What a shitload of fuck. I don't have to tell you, you can get lost for weeks on the everlasting hilarity and replay value of cinemassacre.com, can't fucking wait for AVGN the movie.

Frankie's top 10 AVGN episodes..

1. Plumbers Don't Wear Ties
2. Swordquest
3. Nintendo World Championships
4. Super Mario 3
5. Sega CD + 32X
6. Atari Jaguar
7. Ninja Gaiden
8. Swarzanegger Games
9. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
10. Christmas Carol

Man, I couldn't list my favourite AVGN vids since almost all of them are brilliant.
Some of my favourites are:

Lester The Unlikely
Silver Surfer
The Whole CD-i Marathon
Action 52

But I tend to prefer the classic one with James just reviewing and ranting, not so much those with prominent guests and too much action.

CDI, Silver Surfer and Action 52 are definitely up there.

For whatever reason the best episodes in general seem to be when reviewing the dodgy consoles ... I mean, I can't get enough of those 'cool' guys in sunglasses telling us to throw away our 'baby toys' ....

The guests on occasion can be annoying. The Bullshit vids of late especially are getting a bit forced. Sort of like he's exhausted his ideas and now he's rehashing too much of the old. But as you can see, I thought the latest AVGN was a great one.

Anyway, it's just funny to get to play all the games after you watch the vids, because of the roms which are available. There are certain things in which contemporary gaming has obviously improved, but then there are others that haven't quite gotten there.

My favorite games would be on the latest ports, but my favorite consoles would be Playstation 1 and the Super NES.

By the way, you should listen to the song Black Is You of the album my band released yesterday, the first ten seconds feature a james Rolfe sample (one of the few serious ones, him talking about suicide).

My favourite games almost all appeared on Nintenod consoles, most on N64 and TheCube I guess.
So N64 should be my favourite console for some reason.

Hey, Frankie back! And with lists to boot! :yay
Yeah that vid was hilarious, I wonder if that mailer was actually serious. Some people you never know. :roll

My three favorite AVGN episodes are:

Halloween
Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle
Ninja Gaiden

The Batman marathon was really good too. Hell, almost all of them are fucking hilarious, haha!

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks obsessive picture takers are fucking annoying. I agree with you PBD, parents let their kids get away with everything. If I started screaming my head off at a park, my parents would either straighten me out or take me home. They wouldn't put up (and make others put up) with my shit.

I hope the AVGN movie is gonna be good.

I'm sadistic, I like listening to the phone calls my mom has with my sister where my sister is crying and my mom is yelling at her.
The most recent one is, "Are you crying, AGAIN?" That was followed up by, "Suck it up! This is life, you're 32 years old. Hello, I'm trying to support you!" I burst out laughing twice.

I also really like watching teenage girls fight with their mothers in shopping malls. It's great when the teenage girl is on the verge of tears or is already crying and the mom is saying things like "forget it, lets just go home!"
It makes me really happy that I'm no longer a teenager nor do I depend on my parents for anything.

That is sadistic PBD, haha!

I just played through MGS2 yesterday and it had to have been the best and most thought provoking story I've ever found in a video game. Amazing.

I listened to Black is You the other day and thought it was alright ... and the samples definitely were suited to the song. James really does have a dark streak to himself there you don't really get from the reviews and AVGN eps ... I watched Cinemassacre 200 and 300 and was surprised at how much work he invested over the years just making films. The story about the dragon was for me, personally moving, especially since I'm dealing with a similar theme for the book I'm currently writing.

Anyway, I guess I'll check out your other songs in a bit more depth when I have time ... and hopefully I'll have a bit more to say than 'sounds like Rammstein' ;)

You really see Rammstein in Black Is You which obviously is our Sonic Youth ripoff? :D
Don't be scared by it, it's our nosiest song by far and the last of "the old ones" left - we moved on to a more progressive rock architecture (check out Futures In Bones - my favourite).

i decided to get your album last night. very nice by the way! :) i don't see Rammstein either. that song definitely reminded me of old Sonic Youth. a lot of your instrumentals reminded me of them actually and the vocals.

It's statistically much more likely that there are other advanced species out there than that there are not.
