that's a good way of looking at it. and yeah, i think it is probably impossible to create some site that will unify the fanbase. everyone pretty much prefers just doing their own thing on their own forums.

I felt quite surprised how Orwell predicted globalization. Perhaps, not so much to the extent as described in the book, but it's quite amazing the societal effects he described and how they're so prevalent nowadays.

Globalisation isn't a recent thing, it was beginning to happen during Orwell's time. The time Orwell describes in 1984 is merely the inevitable ends of something that has been happening for hundreds of years. This is all fairly obvious to anyone who has spent even the smallest amount of time researching in this area.
