So over the past year or so I've really been getting into Neil Young. I just find him so damn groovy! It's another one of those things where pretty much everything I hear by him I like. And on top of that, he has one of those voices that are totally unique and hard to replicate.

I play a lot of guitar, and make a lot of music, and it's kind of interesting to see how similarly founded some of my techniques are to Young before I even listened to him!

And of course, Billy has mentioned Young a few times over the past couple years as being one of those "genuine" musicians. And actually, I kind of "discovered" Young on the the Official Billy and/or SP MySpace profile when they posted a video of him playing "Heart Of Gold." I saw it and was totally captivated ever since!

Man, the things you miss out on! ; )

Anyone else here a fan?

I'm not an explicit fan (because of the simple fact that I don't know enough Young stuff) but have you ever been thinking about folky tunes like "Winterlong" as a Young hommage?
Especially the performance of it on the If all goes wrong DVD!!!!

Winterlong, totally! I just made that connection about a week ago myself!

It seems that Billy references a lot of his influences. Something I also noticed that in Young's "Crime In The City" there's a line that goes "before I even learned to talk..."

I instantly thought of "To Forgive" with it's similar lyrics.

Maybe it's a loose connection. But of course, there's always the Cinnamon Girl cover!

Funnily enough my Mate is called Neil Young and he introduced me to Neil Youngs music about a year ago. :)
I really like quite a few of his song other than the electronic mid 80's stuff
Your strength is my weakness, your weakness my hate
My love for you just can't explain
Why we're forever frozen, forever beautiful
Forever lost inside ourselves

Wow, that's pretty trippy!

Right on, yes, I'm not so sure about his electro 1980's tunes either. They're certainly different from the rest of his stuff, and I like the vocal effects on some of them.

Right now I've really been into "Freedom" and "Living With War."

I saw him on the old grey whistle test. One of the best acoustic/piano performance I've seen. It was so cool.

A few other connections I thought of recently:

There's an amazing song called "Revolution Blues" from the album "On The Beach"

Also, I just got an album by Young called "Lucky Thirteen."

Hippies? Try the Grateful Dead... ;)

I think Neil Young was one of those guys that was never really cool, you know. It was the same scenario that the Pumpkins had, it seems.

Anyway, I think his voice is just killer. Where are you going to see him Pumpklone?

The O2 in Dublin. He came to Ireland last year and I only realised that I wanted to go when my brother told me how deadly it was. I thought I'd missed my chance to see him but now I've got my ticket for his show in June. Whoot! Good times.

its rock and roll. thats like saying the cure reminds me of fags. you obviously havent listened to shit all of his music. hes about as important as david bowie, the beatles, pink floyd, velvet underground and the rolling stones as far as influencing anything thats been produced in the last 20 years. bands like sonic youth, nirvana, and of course the sp were all influenced by neil young

anyway obviously i love neil. i saw him on his last tour here in syd it was fantastic.:)

I saw him in Dublin, in this newly done up venue where the sound is deadly. It sucks when touring people don't come to where you are, its so frustrating. There are some good videos up on youtube. Oh yeah, and for the whole gig he wore half his shirt because he tried to take it off during a solo but forgot after one sleeve, the rocking out got in the way.

Do you remember the setlist? I assume that he played a lot of new material?
