‎Mikael Akerfeldt gave an interview recently, and talked about the forthcoming Storm Corrosion record he's making with Steven, and here are the bullet points about the record going around that arose from the interview.

* There will be 6 tracks on the album
* Each song will be over 10 minutes long
* Lots of orchestration
* Some tracks will be beautiful, while others will be disturbing
* It will be released in April 2012 on Roadrunner Records
* It will not sound like Porcupine Tree or Opeth
* Steven Wilson – vocals, keyboards
* Mikael Akerfeldt – guitars, vocals
* The record has no drums on it, usually has a guitar keeping the beat

Steven is busy this year.

Sounds interesting. I'm definitely looking forward to it, although I don't know how much I will like it, as I don't really know what it will sound like. SW has said it kind of makes up a trilogy, in terms of style, along with Grace For Drowning and Opeth's Heritage... but we'll see.

6 songs each over ten minutes sounds good though - most of my favourite albums are over an hour and I usually like longer songs too.

I'm usually rapped with one 10 minute plus track on an album. 6 will be awesome! I'm looking forward to the disturbing songs especially :yay

So who thinks Grace For Drowning is the metal album or over album of the year?

Well, it's not a metal album at all. So definitely not metal album of the year :p

It's not my favourite album of the year either, although I do like it a lot. It made my top 10 rock albums, here:

Amplifier as your number 1, not a bad choice. I might make my top albums list soon.

Yeah, albums like that don't come along very often. Pretty amazing piece of work, sadly over-looked by most, I expect.

Ok, metal is a bit of a stretch. :p

Bush was pretty high up and personally, Megadeth's new album would've made my list. Lotta that stuff I still need to listen to though.

Never could get into Bush.

16 Stone is a good album, and I liked a few songs on Golden Age (and plenty I didn't like).

Golden State, you mean. That is actually my favourite Bush album, as I love all twelve songs.

Golden State then. I like Headful of Ghosts, Land of the Living, the two singles and a quite acoustic song that's about track 7. I remember there was the occasional shouty mess on there.

Shouty mess? Maybe "My Engine is With You" (although I love that one). I think Inflatable is the acoustic one you mean. And what about Float (the last track), you must like that :) Suppose it's all subjective, but I love that album.

I'm not sure I put too much listening into the end of the album. I mean... I may have and I don't remember. It was a while ago since I was listening to that album.

I was interested in the reunion album after your review, but if you don't think it's better than Golden state.. then I don't know..

Well, I don't think most albums are better than Golden State :p And definitely 16 Stone isn't!

Oh, and if it was the shouty stuff on GS that put you off, you will probably like the new one more, as it's their mellowest album.

16 Stone is essentially their best work. They're at their prime in an era that appreciates rock / grunge music, and they produced some classics in a competitive field. My favorite songs there would be Everything Zen, Alien, Come Down (and of course the acoustic one as well), and Machinehead. I can listen to that album though from start to finish all the way through. I think that in Golden State they hadn't adapted to the era well, and they seem caught between the nineties and the 0's. The only song that really pushed the envelope was Headful of Ghosts.

By the way I got Returning Jesus by No-Man.

It's a quiet and seemingly simple album, but when you 'get right in there' there's a lot more to it. I love the orchestration in the first song, Close your eyes is great, and you're right to recommend Lighthouse as well because that's growing on me.

I doubt though it will be a contender for their best album, because I thought Photographs in Black and White and Angel Caught in the Beauty Trap were instant classics... just out of this world.
