Wow, that sounds great! I'm jealous! I would love to go to a SW show more than any other band, but the only UK date lined up is in London, which is much too far :(

So, I gotta comment on a couple of things you've said there...

SW saying that his solo stuff is now his main band rather than PT. I'm not surprised by this, to be honest. I basically assumed that when I heard he'd started work on his next solo album almost as soon as Grace For Drowning was released. I hope he doesn't totally stop working as PT, but his solo stuff is great too, so I don't mind this at all.

And then I have to ask about this new 20 minute song - what was it like? Was it similar to the Grace stuff? I wonder if it will be on the Blu-ray he'll be releasing of this tour.

By the way, I watched the Insurgentes DVD again a few days ago - forgot how good it was. One of my favourite bits is when that random woman asks, "What kind of music do you make" and SW replies, "Weird shit." Don't know why, but it always makes me smile :)

The new song was sort of split.
The first half sounded like Jane's Addiction covering your random PT tune :D and the second half first started out as complete free jazz than transforming into the best psychedelic rock I have ever heard since Up The Downstair.
But it felt even more jazzy than anything on Grace.
It was brillant.

I might get the TF100 album, which has good ol' SW collaborating on most of the tracks in one way or another.

01. Like Charcoal (vocals and guitar by SW)
02. Trevail (guitar by SW)
03. California Falling (keys by SW)
04. Pale Ghostlike Friend (vocals, bass and keys by SW)
05. Through The Eyes Of The Duck
06. Song For John Fahey (autoharp, violin, bass and guitar by SW)
07. Murmlefish

That sounds pretty.

The most interesting thing the SW show did for me was that it changed the way I regard the Grace album.
It felt like upper middle-class to me when it was released, I adored the jazzieness but it felt a bit overdone and forced.
Now that I've seen it played live by a band that was bewitched by the music they created themselves, I have got a new emotional access to it and I have to admit that it is a masterpiece and maybe the greatest bit of serious art by SW in a long time.

Just listened to Storm Corrosion for the first time. That's pretty unusual stuff :)

Odd indeed.
You must be in the right mood for Storm Corrosion, otherwise it can be slightly annoying. :D
But if you are it's a pleasure.

Hmm, not sure I'd say it was annoying - except for the first track, Drag Ropes, which can be a bit annoying in places. I've only listened to it three times so far, but definitely been enjoying it. I'll give further thoughts on it when I've listened to it more and got my head round it better :)

After 3-4 spins I haven't listened again to Storm Corrosion for maybe a month.
Coming back to it now is listening to the best fucking thing ever...this is one of this year's biggest growers I guess.

I've probably listened to it about 15 or so times, but it's been filed away on my shelf now for a little while. It is a great album... I was kinda thinking no one on else here liked it as no one's really mentioned it. I love it though.

If you like that, Don, you should check out that TF100 compilation album as well :)

Not SW-related, but we talk about them in here:

The Pineapple Thief's new album will be called All The Wars and out Sep 3rd. You can here a song here:
www.pineapplethief.com/

I'm sure Bruce said there'd be an EP before the album, but no news on that. The album comes with a 2nd disc with bonus tracks, so maybe that is instead of the EP.

Re: Steven Wilson 11 months 1 day ago #114266

Yeah, I love the artwork too!

I like the song a lot, although it does feel a bit similar to earlier PT stuff. Usually each album has a slightly different feel to each of the others, so I'm hoping when I listen to the whole album there will be enough on there to set it apart from the others.

Oh, and disc 2 is basically just acoustic versions, so I'm not sure what happened to the idea of the EP, maybe it's still happening.

Awesome! There wasn't earlier, but I was hoping it would get made available for downloading :)

I'll add that to my "Recordings II" ;)

I wonder why Godfearing didn't make the album (In Absentia), it's even better than some of it's tunes.
