Well, he doesn't seem to know whether it was for In Absentia or Deadwing. Has more of a Deadwing feel to me.

Shame the download isn't a higher quality file, but seeing as it's free I won't complain :)

Does the bit at about 3:15 make anyone else think Mellon Collie?

:)

Also - I put this right before Mother & Child Divided on my Recordings 2 playlist and it works really well ;)

It's a great price for what you get though. And I'm sure there are cheaper versions too ;)

So I just bought and listened to my first PT album, Fear of A Blank Planet. I've only given it 2 listens so far but as of now, I like it alot. The lyrics and theme of the album especially! (They are relatable as I wrote my junior theme on the dehumanization of our culture through modern technology) Anesthetize is especially amazing!

I went in to the bookstore with a $15 gift card. I almost came out with a Jim Morrison poster but decided I wanted the Porcupine Tree album more. What would you guys recommend I get next by PT?

Nice work on getting into the mighty PT!

Maybe try Lightbulb Sun or The Sky Moves Sideways next. Can't really go wrong, there's lots of variety, but it's almost all good. Just Avoid On The Sunday of Life though ;)

Chose your side:
Up The Downstair (experimental) or Lightbulb Sun (brit pop).

Oooh, I love BritPop, I might go with Lightbulb Sun. Signify sounds interesting as it was one of their earlier albums. What are you guys overall opinions on In Absentia and Stupid Dream? I've read that those are pretty critically acclaimed as well.

You should check out the thread Discography Reviews: Porcupine Tree. We've reviewed up to Deadwing I believe. Hmmm... Speaking of which, probably should get back to that soon...

Yeah, we really should get back to that.

KJ: Other than avoiding On The Sunday of Life, you can't really go wrong with any PT album. Some are better than others, but all are good and there's quite a lot of variety throughout the albums too :)

Alright guys thanks! I think I'm gonna take my time and absorb "Fear" completely before I rush out and buy everything because that's a bad habit that I have with bands I'm getting into, haha! :p

HI folks - an update of sorts.... The writing for the next SW album is almost finished, and this time I've written it all for my live band to play, mostly pretty long pieces (including the piece we previewed on the recent tour "Luminol").

Yeah, I'm looking forward to hearing it / seeing it on the live album :)

I just found out something that makes me wanna sell my Coma Divine double album.
The booklet says that several tracks were partially re-recorded by SW in the studio :( .
How uncool is that?
I mean, I don't mind bands like Kiss re-recording half of their live perfomances for the "live" album release but this is PT.
It's a shame, pretentious and it kills the live experience.

Re: Steven Wilson 10 months 4 days ago #115219

That is a shame, I didn't know that. But it is a kick ass album all the same, with a great selection of songs. I wonder how much they were re-recorded? Maybe it was due to fault recording equipment during the live show.
