Dream (or anyone else if they're interested). Seeing as we got onto some of this from talking about Ghost Brigade, I was wondering what you would make of some of the lyrics to a few songs from Guided By Fire.
Minus Side:
Taking life for itself
You call yourself a man
Declare it as a sin
Who are you to judge
Can't stand alone behind your own words
We made you as a coward
We blame you, you loser
We name you as a coward
So you deserve to fly away
We have seen so many fail
Trying to change people for better
Evolved to minus side
And the number is growing
Maybe the end of war
It could clear us all
Maybe the end of all
And another day would be dark
So many gave their lives for serving god
Stopped so late or stayed in the dark
I believe in this simple world
I believe in you
To choose your side the day you born
Unlike the unborn
That's your only salvation
Think you're feeling better
The full circle has done
Maybe the end of war
It shall deem us all
Maybe the end of all
And another day would be gone
So many gave their lives for serving god
Stopped so late or stayed in the dark
I believe in this simple world
I believe in the spoken word
I believe in this simple world
I believe in you
Now, I'd actually interpret that as anti-religious. It seems to be implying to me that people wasted their lives in "god's" name and their beliefs were leaving them "in the dark", and that the singer, as he says, believes in "this simple world" - so taking the world for what it is and not needing to believe in any "higher power". But given the religious or spiritual vibe I have got from some of their other songs, I feel I might have mis-interpreted what they meant.
Horns:
Who's there to lie to for a little more
Got so evil, how could this happen
Living shell of a human, I can't trust you
Pain is much more than I could ever be
Made your mind
Inner source saw a place to exceed god
Why need god
What's safe to see we let the eyes
I can see no god
What you create, what you make
So you are a human with no one
Show me the ways how you make everything shine
I'll make you walk through fire and desire
Let hell be loose, everything that I ever wanted
Made your mind
Inner source saw a place to exceed god
Why need god
What's safe to see we let the eyes
I can see no god (What you create, what you make)
Turn away
Lack of trust
Helpless deep within to someone
Stop crying
Say something what is real
This time your god won't help you
Here, again, it could be interpreted that they don't believe in a god, with lines like "Why need god?" and "I can see no god". But I don't know if they're saying that as their own opinion, or are they expressing it as the opinion of a character in the song who doesn't believe in god, but should?
Away and Here:
How sick you ever wanna be
Able to see the light
Suffer boy leash won't break
How hard you try
Helplessly tilt the time for me
Can you help this only for me
Walls around you grow taller
Hard to keep em clean
Heaven beside you bargain goes with God
Buy yourself your own kingdom
Helplessly tilt the time for me
Can you help this only for me
First to find ???
It's hard to be at the ??
Lightning running for ??
Lack of regret makes me lone
A heaven and god reference here and I have to admit I can't grasp what they're getting at in this song. Not helped by there being no lyrics in the album booklet and the lyric websites I've looked at all seem to have blanks. I'd love opinions on what this one is about.
