Hey guys! Glad this topic is still alive.

The project is going very well! I'm taking it one year at a time - in no particular order, just doing the easiest ones first.

A LOT of re-labeling! Its tedious but when I'm done I'll be so happy that they all have propor and consistant labels.

I'd say I'll be a quarter through by the end of the year maybe?? I dunno...

keep it up! excited to see what this is like in the end :thumbsup

That's the site I was talking about.

WE have a netphorian among us! :p

Haha, that's actually pretty cool though.

It would be nice to have something similar here. I could try, but it could take a lot of time.

Re: Has anyone ever tried this? 1 year 6 months ago #102650

I had sort of decided to actually accomplish this project of collecting all decent recordings of live shows and all legally available unreleased material quite some time ago. I use three main resources: various mediafire sites, this website, and archive.org.

It took a lot of sifting through horrible recordings to find ones I wanted to download, but I started at the very beginning(meaning the earliest recordings of the marked I could find) and got through to somewhere in July of 1994 before I got burned out with all of the researching which recordings were from which bootlegs and fitting that into a date based format and all the labeling and all the sifting through just atrocious or cut/incomoplete recordings.

I have however been keeping up with the current tour seeing as it's god damn fucking incredible -- just when all of you thought the teargarden project was going nowhere. :)

Anyone ever made it through all the way and completed this sort of project? I would be curious to know from someone who has actually fully completed the project what their singular favorite show is. Mine is currently 12-31-1991(technically 1-1-1992 as they started playing after midnight) at the cabaret metro -- although billy's guitar going out during one of the most crucial moments of silverfuck is frustrating and heartbraking to all involved.

Also a related question: I currently have around 8 or 9 full concert videos(of at least really decent quality) - anyone know any good legal places to get copies of more?

And by the way, I'll eventually finish this project, but I'm taking a break.

I was thinking also about a thread with posts that could be edited by the members to complete more easily the project.

Yeah I know it's a bummer... i'm sure there's a community of people that share the soundboards... lemme re-phrase that -- I assume there's a community of people who share the soundboard recordings, but I don't know there really is one -- but anyway -- but i made a decision a few years ago to not download anything that is otherwise commercially available -- so i'm stuck with the likes of archive.org and such. Like for the mashed potatoes boxed set, I actually paid for the downloads of the two songs on that box set that have been commercially released. So i miss out on a lot i'm sure, but it's the right decision, and I'd like to think I bring some moral awareness to the musical audience of our times.

AWESOME. I think the more you actually create the move interest you'll have especially with a small but growing national interest in the band.

I would love to see what you do.

I could post the first part of my live versions project. I think I should made a new topic; for the complete list probably would be necessary more consecutive posts. Every comment or suggestion should be added in a separate topic, could be used also this one "Has anyone ever tried this?". Any advice is accepted.

My head would literally explode if I tried to accomplish what you guys are. From talking to others, there is not even surfaced recordings for some shows. Even SP's first show doesn't have a completed setlist on SPFC for example. Some of the live shows maybe in the Pumpkins archives but who k nows. For example, Billy had been going on and on about the Rubano Tapes, which I believe charts the band's early career live. I don't know how far it goes again though. that might theoretically be released through the SPRC but that whole Lucky 13 thing is in a holding pattern right now.

The problem, especially in recent years I think would be redundancy, where the setlist doesn't change or hardly changes. Imagine if someone sat down and listened to those back to back, they would probably get annoyed (well I would) by just hearing slight variations of the same songs several times in a row. The 20th anniversary tour is a good example. I have two Chicago shows and two Toronto shows, but since the setlists are so similar (only difference is in the first Auditorium Theatre show, Billy was too sick to play the last couple of songs) I don't try to play those at the same time at all. Sometimes I have contemplated deleting the Toronto shows because I have other stuff in my music library that I could be listening too. It's the same reason why (aside from money), I didn't buy tickets for all 4 Chicago shows (before one was postponed and another added).
